Is Europe about to Ignore United States on Iran Deal in Practice?

  • PressTV Published on Jul 19, 2018
European economic powerhouses Germany, France and the UK have reportedly notified Tehran that they seek to open direct banking channels with the Islamic Republic, in what would be the first practical step to sustain the 2015 nuclear deal and sidestep the US, which has unilaterally withdrawn from the accord.

U.S. Refuses European Requests for Exemptions from Its New Sanctions on Iran

  • U.S. Refuses European Requests for Exemptions from Its New Sanctions on Iran
by Dan De Luce, Abigail Williams and Andrea Mitchell, https://www.nbcnews.com/
“We will seek to provide unprecedented financial pressure on the Iranian regime,” the U.S. said, rebuffing Britain, France, and Germany.

WASHINGTON — The United States has rejected an appeal from Britain, France and Germany to grant broad exemptions to European firms doing business in Iran, saying it would press ahead with sanctions intended to exert “unprecedented” economic pressure on the Tehran regime, U.S. and Western officials told NBC News.

Replying to a June 4 letter from the European powers, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin wrote that the Trump administration would not agree to wide-ranging protections for European companies operating in Iran and instead would grant only limited exceptions based on national security or humanitarian grounds, the officials said.

The stern message comes as the White House has ratcheted up its rhetoric toward Iran, accused Tehran of plotting terrorist attacks in Europe and vowed to hammer the country’s economy.

The letter from the Trump administration marks the latest dispute in an increasingly tense U.S. relationship with European allies, aggravated by the president’s harsh criticism of NATO partners this week during his visit to Brussels.

Having pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal on May 8, the Trump administration plans to reimpose an array of economic sanctions on Iran, including measures designed to cut off Tehran’s financial sector from Western banks. A first wave of sanctions will enter into force by an August deadline, and then another wave will hit in November.

The Iran nuclear deal, which had imposed restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program in return for easing economic sanctions, had “failed to guarantee the safety of the American people,” the letter said, according to U.S. and Western officials.

France, Italy Say They Won’t Increase Defense Spending Despite Trump’s Claim

  • PressTV Published on Jul 12, 2018
France and Italy deny US President Donald Trump’s claim that NATO members will increase military spending. French President Emmanuel Macron said France only remains committed to boosting its military budget to two percent of its GDP by 2024. Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte also said he did not promise to increase his country’s military spending. Trump claimed other NATO members had agreed to increase their military budget to four percent of their GDP.

Trump Says He ‘Thinks’ He Can Pull Out of NATO Without Congressional Approval

  • Trump Says He ‘Thinks’ He Can Pull Out of NATO Without Congressional Approval
    by https://www.rt.com/
Speaking with journalists at the NATO summit in Brussels, Donald Trump said he “thinks” he can pull out of NATO without congressional approval. The US president made the statement when asked if he had threatened to pull out of the alliance, and whether he thought he could do so without first consulting Congress. Trump ignored the first question, but on the second question, he said, “I think I can.”

According to Politico, Trump warned his allies behind closed doors that they would need to radically increase defense spending or the US “will do our own thing.”NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg then reportedly shifted the meeting to an allies-only emergency session, requiring European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker to leave the room.

After the emergency session, Trump said that the alliance is “very unified, very strong, no problem.” He added that NATO allies had committed to increasing their defense spending to beyond two percent of GDP, and added that pulling out of the military alliance would therefore be “unnecessary.”

However, French President Emmanuel Macron denied Trump’s claim that all 29 member states pledged to increase spending beyond the two percent goal, and added that “President Trump never at any moment, either in public or in private, threatened to withdraw from NATO.”

At present, only five NATO member states – the US, UK, Greece, Estonia, and Poland – allocate two percent of their GDP to defense spending, a requirement for membership. In 2017, the US spent $686 billion on defense, over double the expenditure of all 28 other states combined.

The discrepancy in funding has been a constant source of chagrin for Trump, who has accused the other member states of not pulling their weight. In the run-up to this year’s summit, the president singled out Germany, which spends only 1.2 percent of its GDP on defense.

Voicing his frustrations via Twitter on Thursday morning, Trump said that previous US presidents have been lobbying Germany to increase defense expenditure for years, as the US continues to foot the bill for defense against a perceived Russian threat.

France Dangerous Game Over the Nuclear Deal. Agreement in November? Covenant of 1 Week (24 Nov 2018 — 18 Oct 2025)?

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Daniel+9%3A27&version=NKJV

  • Update 17 July 2018 — The correct date should be 24 Nov 2018 – 18 Oct 2025 NOT 22 Nov 2018. I missed out the 2 leap years of 2020 and 2024, where we have 29 Feb 2020 and 29 Feb 2024 (2)additional days.
  • Is the ‘Covenant of 1 Week’ of Daniel’s prophecy about to be fulfilled? I am not 100% certain. It may not be the case. But the numbers indicate a NON ZERO probability. We’ll just have to be alert and keep tracking it.
  • The current JCPOA agreement terminates on 18 Oct 2025. If an agreement is signed with validity starting on 22 Nov 2018(this should be 24 Nov 2018) and based on the JCPOA termination date 18 Oct 2025, it will be exactly 2520 days ie 7 x 360days , 7 Biblical years. Will this modified agreement be the Covenant of 1 Week (7 Biblical years) of Daniel’s prophecy? I do not know for certain. But my 10 pairs of eyes are on it. Emphasis mine:
  • France Dangerous Game Over the Nuclear Deal
    by http://www.tehrantimes.com/
TEHRAN – On the eve of the negotiations between Iran and the members of the P4+1 in Vienna on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the French Foreign Minister determined the fate of “European JCPOA” once and for all! In an interview with RTL radio on the “Europe’s package of proposals to Iran” for saving the nuclear deal, Jean Yves Le Drian stated:

“Iran must stop permanently threatening to break their commitments to the nuclear deal so that Europe can find the solutions so that Iran can have the necessary economic compensations.

France has also said that Europe would likely not be able to create an economic compensation package for Iran prior to November. Le Drian said France was working to create a plan to mitigate the effects of the United States’ sanctions, which will be reapplied in August, and toughened in November. “For the start August it seems a bit short, but we are trying to do it by November,” he emphasized.

At the first glance, Le Drian’s words seem to be simple and obvious. Some optimistic analysts may even agree with the French FM for more time being needed to come up with an economic compensation package. But the fact is that Le Drian is sending signals of entering a complicated and dangerous game! There are some points to be taken into consideration in this regard:

    1) Undoubtedly, if the European troika and other EU member states wanted to consider their economic capacities for saving the JCPOA, they had to do so immediately after the withdrawal of Trump from the nuclear deal. However, today, as almost two months has passed since the official withdrawal of the White House from the JCPOA, European authorities are still talking about their “obligations” towards the nuclear deal, and refuse to offer any guarantees in this regard. The European officials, quite deliberately, are refusing to draw up the basic and minimal mechanisms to enforce their commitment to the JCPOA. The reality is that, at the current moment, Europe has no intention and incentive to announce its full and detailed package.

Although part of U.S. secondary sanctions against Iran is scheduled to be implemented in August, but this is of no importance to the European troika! The French authorities’ focus and emphasis on “November” has also been well targeted. The U.S. Congress elections will be held in November, and the results could lead to the loss of the majority Republicans in Congress (House of Representatives and Senate), and thereby, Donald Trump’s domestic and international maneuverability may decrease. However, the opposite can also come true. That is, the Republicans possible victory in Congress could lead to more pressures on Europe by the United States’ controversial President between 2018 and 2020. French and European officials are now trying to continue their game until November to see what will eventually happen, and then act accordingly.

    2) Over the recent months, Democrats in the United States held negotiations with the U.S. European allies. They have promised Europeans that in case of their victory in the U.S. midterm elections, the White House’s confrontation with the United Europe would considerably decrease. However, the French authorities, on the one hand, aren’t sure of the Democrats’ victory in the U.S. midterm elections, and on the other hand, they are not convinced of the implementation of their commitments to “restrain Trump.” The European troika believes that if the case of the “European JCPOA” was closed before November, and then the Congress would remain in the hands of the Republicans, they would lose one of their main leverages in dealing with the White House. This bitter truth reflects the illegal encountering of the United Europe with the JCPOA on the one hand, and on the other hand, it indicates Europe’s inclination for continued security and economic dependence on the United States. Obviously, in such a situation, counting on the “European JCPOA” would be considered a terrible mistake.

  • Is this coming new Iranian Nuclear Deal: Peace Treaty, Daniel’s ‘Covenant of 1 Week’?  Why do I have my 10 pairs of eyeballs on this JCPOA, Iran nuclear deal? The EU driven by Macron is discussing a revised Iran nuclear deal but without USA participation. The current deal expires in 2025 ie. about 7 years (according to Trump see below). France Says No Iran Package Before November as Zarif Rejects ‘Obscure Promises’ (Covenant of 1 Week: 24 Nov 2018 to 18 Oct 2025??)

  • France Says No Iran Package Before November as Zarif Rejects ‘Obscure Promises’
    by https://www.presstv.com/French
France says Europe is unlikely to put together an economic package for Iran before November as Tehran urges “verifiable and actionable commitments rather than lofty and obscure promises.”

Foreign ministers of Iran and the five remaining parties to the 2015 nuclear deal were meeting in Vienna on Friday to discuss ways of maintaining the international accord after the US  withdrawal in May.

“In Vienna for JCPOA Ministerial Meeting. My mandate is crystal clear: Forge practical solutions. Expecting EU/E3+2 counterparts to make verifiable & actionable commitments rather than lofty & obscure promises,” Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif tweeted.

Tehran has conditioned its stay in the deal to practical European strides to make sure Iran’s dividends from the deal would not be affected when US sanctions “snap back” in August.

“Make no mistake: Sanctions & JCPOA compliance are mutually exclusive,” Zarif warned, using the official name for the nuclear agreement which stands for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, however, told Iran not to expect much before November as he headed to Vienna for the ministerial meeting on the agreement.  “They must stop permanently threatening to break their commitments to the nuclear deal,” Le Drian told RTL radio. “They must stop the threats so that we can find the solutions so that Iran can have the necessary economic compensations,” he said.

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani told German Chancellor Angela Merkel over phone Thursday that Tehran would continue cooperation with Europe if the remaining parties to the JCPOA meet Tehran’s expectations.

  • France Says Economic Package for Iran Deal Unlikely Before November
    by Reuters, via https://www.nytimes.com/, 6 July 2018
VIENNA — France said on Friday it was unlikely European powers would be able to put together an economic package for Iran that would salvage its nuclear deal before November and warned Tehran to stop threatening to break its commitments to the accord.

“They must stop permanently threatening to break their commitments to the nuclear deal,” French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told RTL radio before traveling to Vienna for a ministerial meeting on the agreement. “They must stop the threats so that we can find the solutions so that Iran can have the necessary economic compensations.”

He said the European powers but also Russia and China were working on coming up with a financial mechanism to mitigate planned tough U.S. sanctions.

Major World Powers Make Last Ditch Effort to Save Iran Nuclear Deal

  • Major World Powers Make Last Ditch Effort to Save Iran Nuclear Deal
    by https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/
Top diplomats from Iran and five world powers are meeting today in Vienna in a desperate attempt to save the 2015 nuclear deal following the withdrawal of the United States. The foreign ministers of Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia are due to meet with their Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif for the first time since US President Donald Trump broke ranks with the major powers and ushered in a new round of sanctions against Tehran.

Trump intends to bring the Mullahs in Tehran to their knees by forcing Iran’s oil export to cease as early as November. Iran hopes to agree on a package with the Europeans to counter the impact of the sanctions.

Remaining parties to the deal have been obliging and have expressed their strong intention to work with the Iranians even without their traditional ally. However, Iranian news agencies reported that ahead of the talks, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani told the leaders of France and Germany that a European package of economic measures to counter the effects of US sanctions does not go far enough.

Yesterday, Rouhani is reported to have told French President Emmanuel Macron in a phone call that the package “does not meet all our demands”. In another phone call to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Rouhani said the European economic measures are “disappointing”.

“Unfortunately, the proposed package lacked an action plan or a clear roadmap for continuation of cooperation. It only included some general promises like previous EU statements,” the Iranian leader said, adding that he hoped to see deficiencies in the package resolved during today’s meeting.

If the major powers are able to agree on a package, Trump’s hopes of bringing Iran’s oil export to zero will take a massive blow. The maverick businessman turned politician is desperate to get his troops in line to deal with any shock that may follow. He’s even threatened  his Gulf allies to play their part or risk losing US as a security partner; a threat which the Saudis may not have been prepared for when they were cheerleading Trump to pull out of the deal.

Iran: EU Package on Extending Nuclear Deal ‘Disappointing’

  • Iran: EU Package on Extending Nuclear Deal ‘Disappointing’
    by https://sputniknews.com/
During talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani described as disappointing the package of proposals to preserve the Iran nuclear deal submitted by France, Britain and Germany, according to a statement posted on Rouhani’s official website on Thursday.

“Unfortunately, the proposed package lacks a practical solution and a specific method for continuing cooperation and simply reiterates the general nature of the commitment, similar to what the European Union did in its statements earlier,” Rouhani stressed, calling the proposals “disappointing.”

However, Angela Merkel reaffirmed in phone talks with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani that Berlin does not intend to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal and will continue work to preserve it, according to a statement posted on Rouhani’s official website on Thursday.

The German leader noted that the package of proposals offered to Iran refers only to basic issues on the preservation of the deal, and it is necessary to conduct further dialogue to work out the details, the statement says.

“What’s really important is that we are confident that we want to remain in the deal,” Merkel said as cited by the document.

Macron’s Soft Power Push in Africa is Key to ‘Making France Great Again’

Macron said he wanted to rule as a ‘Jupiter’, above the political fray.

  • Have I concluded 100% that Macron is the Man of Sin? NO! He definitely fits the bill in certain aspects. His statement of wanting to rule like Jupiter/Zeus – the Roman god of gods, certainly makes him a top candidate.
  • However, I have found no evidence of him being Jewish. Theologically, the Bible implies that the Man of Sin is a Jew. Would I be surprise if he is really a Jew? Not at all because Satanic bloodlines are very good at hiding their genealogies. Having said this, if for argument sake, someone provides evidence that he is Jewish. Does it mean Macron is definitely the Son of Perdition? My answer is NO! Because the modern definition of a Jew is not the biblical definition. I have shown that modern Jews (90+% of modern Jewry) are NOT semitic people ie. they are NOT the descendants of the 12 tribes of Israel. So, we need to be very discerning with this Jewish bloodline issue of the Anti-Christ.
  • The next theological reason for not concluding 100% that Macron is the one, is that I do not believe 2Thess 2:9-12 has occurred. We don’t want to jump ahead of biblical events but to think in terms of probabilities. The probability is non zero that Macron is the candidate. Events which are about to happen will help us make a more accurate assessment. There is really no need to confirm 100%, he is the one, or reject 100%, he is not the one.
  • Macron’s Soft Power Push in Africa is Key to ‘Making France Great Again’
    by http://www.france24.com/en/
President Emmanuel Macron arrives Tuesday in Nigeria on his latest soft power mission while attempting to reassure African nations that France’s interest in the continent is more than just colonialism revisited.

Africa has emerged as a cornerstone of Macron’s effort to boost France’s global influence. A high-profile November trip to West Africa was aimed at redefining France’s relationship with its former colonies Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast, and marked the first official visit by a French president to the Anglophone nation of Ghana.

Macron has made clear that vigorous French engagement on the world stage would be a priority of his administration, declaring in no uncertain terms that “France is back.”

And he has largely succeeded in reversing France’s waning influence after just a year in office, according to Christian Lequesne, a specialist in French foreign policy at Sciences Po university in Paris. “We went from being a country in decline to a country that’s moving forward, full of energy,” Lequesne told FRANCE 24 in an interview last month.

In his first-ever annual address to France’s 170 ambassadors in August, Macron reiterated plans to keep the African continent at the core of his foreign policy, stating his conviction that “the future of the world will largely be played out in Africa”. He has also established a new Presidential Council for Africa, whose 11 inaugural members will advise him on African issues and help him prepare for visits to the continent.

Trump Wants to Break Up European Union: Journalist

  • Trump Wants to Break Up European Union: Journalist
    by http://www.presstv.com/
US President Donald Trump is trying to divide the European Union in order to weaken the powerful economic bloc, says a journalist.

“He wants to break up the European Union, because it is a competing trading bloc,” Tony Gosling, an investigative journalist, told Press TV on Saturday. According to Gosling, the United States has been involved in funding through the CIA “to get the EU stopped in the first place.”

The Washington Post said on Friday the US commander in chief had urged his French counterpart to pull his country out of the European Union for better bilateral trade terms.

‘Macron is Tired’ Italian PM RIDICULES France – EU Migrant Deal ALREADY Verges on COLLAPSE

  • ‘Macron is Tired’ Italian PM RIDICULES France – EU Migrant Deal ALREADY Verges on COLLAPSE
    by OLI SMITH, https://www.express.co.uk/
THE Italian prime minister has lashed out at his French counterpart, claiming that Emmanuel Macron “was tired” and did not fully understand the EU migration deal.

New Italian prime minister Giuseppe Conte has ripped into his EU counterparts, claiming that they don’t fully grasp the Europe-wide migration deal secured this week. Confusion over the migrant deal has caused rifts to emerge between countries on the frontline of the migrant crisis and those without an external border. The proposal to build EU migrant centres has already prompted several countries, including France and Austria, to back away from participating in the arrangement.
