Europe Must Offer Plans for Full Implementation of Iran Nuclear Deal: Larijani

  • Europe Must Offer Plans for Full Implementation of Iran Nuclear Deal: Larijani
    by https://www.presstv.com/
The speaker of Iran’s Parliament says European countries must offer their plans for the full implementation of a nuclear agreement signed between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries following withdrawal of the United States from the deal.

Ali Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with Andreas Schieder, the managing parliamentary leader of the Social Democratic Party in Austria’s National Council, in Tehran on Sunday.

Larijani emphasized that European countries must endeavor to implement the nuclear agreement, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in the best possible manner.

“Europe must present its approach and plans for the full implementation of the JCPOA,” the top Iranian parliamentarian pointed out.

US President Donald Trump announced on May 8 that Washington was walking away from the nuclear agreement and that he planned to reinstate US nuclear sanctions on Iran and impose “the highest level” of economic bans on the Islamic Republic.

Under the JCPOA, Iran undertook to put limits on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions imposed against Tehran. Since the US president pulled Washington out of the nuclear deal, European countries have been scrambling to ensure that Iran gets enough economic benefits to persuade it to stay in the deal. The remaining parties have vowed to stay in the accord.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said on July 15 that the European signatories to the nuclear deal must provide Tehran with necessary guarantees about the continued implementation of the deal.

‘Migrant Deal Bit of a Show’: Merkel’s New Border Regime Under Fire from EU Countries

  • RT Published on Jul 4, 2018
Chancellor Merkel is proposing a new plan which would see Germany sending failed asylum seekers back to the EU countries where they first registered. Something that wasn’t agreed to at last Friday’s summit on the migrant crisis.

SCHENGEN AT STAKE: Merkel’s Immigration Deal to See Austria CLOSE Southern Border

  • SCHENGEN AT STAKE: Merkel’s Immigration Deal to See Austria CLOSE Southern Border
    by CIARAN MCGRATH, https://www.express.co.uk/
AUSTRIA has signalled its intentions to shore up its borders in the wake of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s immigration compromise, in a move which puts a question mark over the future of the Schengen agreement.

A joint statement issued by Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, interior minister Vice-Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache and Interior Minister Herbert Kickl outlined plans to tighten restrictions, especially at its southern borders with Slovenia and Italy.

Mrs Merkel’s agreement with Horst Seehofer’s Christian Social Union (CSU) party last night headed off a potential rebellion which could have seen him quit his role as interior minister and plunge her fragile administration into crisis. Details of the deal are scarce, but Mrs Merkel said it involved the creation of transit centres to send back asylum seekers already registered in other EU countries. She added that a “new border regime” would tackle secondary immigration on the German-Austrian border.

Doubts Raised Over Merkel Compromise on Border Controls

  • Doubts Raised Over Merkel Compromise on Border Controls
    by  in Berlin, https://www.theguardian.com/international
Junior partner in coalition has previously objected to plan, and Austria may retaliate

A plan for a new border regime in southern Germany, struck on Monday night by Angela Merkel and her hardline interior minister to defuse a bitter row in the coalition government, is coming under heavy scrutiny.

The border deal, hailed by the German chancellor as a “good compromise”, foresees setting up so-called transit centres on the country’s southern border, where asylum seekers who have already been registered in other EU countries will be held until they can be sent back to those countries.

Like “airside” areas at international airports, the centres would be located on German soil in geographical but not legal terms, making it easier to deport people held in them.

The interior minister, Horst Seehofer, had threatened to resign over the issue of immigration on Sunday night, but the deal has allowed Merkel to avert a fallout between her Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and its sister party in Bavaria, the Christian Social Union (CSU). However, critics say the scheme is at worst unworkable and at best merely moves the political crisis to another part of the coalition.

The transit centre scheme was proposed in 2015 by a CSU politician, Stephan Mayer, but was rejected in the strongest terms by the Social Democratic party (SPD), then and now a junior partner in Merkel’s grand coalition government.

Three years on, the centre-left SPD, wary of fresh elections, may feel less inclined to provoke a new crisis, but it could again reject the proposal at a meeting with members of Merkel’s bloc in Berlin on Tuesday. The party leader, Andrea Nahles, said on Tuesday morning that she opposed the term “transit centres”.

The proposal could also shift the political crisis south to Austria, where the government said it could take its own measures to protect its borders. The compromise deal between Merkel and Seehofer suggests refugees arriving at the Austrian-Bavarian border who were first registered in EU states that now refuse to take them back, such as Hungary, should be sent back to Austria.

At a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, the Austrian government poured scorn on the proposals. “This agreement does not exist, and to be honest I find it hard to image how such an agreement could come about,” said the interior minister, Herbert Kickl, of the far-right Freedom party.

Angela Merkel Facing Fresh Migration Crisis as Austria Threatens to Throw Up Border Controls

  • Angela Merkel Facing Fresh Migration Crisis as Austria Threatens to Throw Up Border Controls
    by Jon Stone, https://www.independent.co.uk/
Austria has threatened to close its borders if Germany’s new policy goes ahead
Angela Merkel was given a fresh migration crisis headache on Tuesday after a neighbouring government threatened to close its borders in response her new stricter asylum policy. Austria said it would “take measures to protect its borders” if Germany imposed new planned entry restrictions on refugees agreed by Ms Merkel in emergency talks with her own ministers late on Monday night.

The policy, which would see migrants entering Germany held in centres and potentially sent back to other EU countries if they had already registered somewhere else, is part of a compromise agreed by Ms Merkel with her rebellious right-ring interior minister Horst Seehofer.

Austria however fears measures to turn back migrants could make it the final destination for more people. Ms Merkel had feared that Germany toughening its stance could cause a wave of border closures across Europe and threaten the integrity of the EU’s passportless Schengen Area.

“We will be obliged to take measures to avoid disadvantages for Austria and its people,” the Austrian government said in a statement. The statement called for Germany to clarify its position. Under the Schengen agreement countries can impose temporary border controls for security or other reasons.

Speaking at the European parliament Austrian chancellor Sebastian Kurz called for a “paradigm shift in migration” and claimed “a Europe without internal borders” would only be possible “in-the long term” with changes. “We need to focus on the safeguarding of our external borders as the prerequisite for a common border-free Europe,” he said.

Merkel Migration Deal’s Domino Effect

  • Merkel Migration Deal’s Domino Effect
    by  AND 7/3/18, https://www.politico.eu/
Austria and Italy threaten border controls if Berlin goes ahead with chancellor’s plan. Angela Merkel struck a deal on migration that saved her own skin but threw the EU into disarray.

Within hours of the German chancellor announcing that she and her harshest domestic critic on migration — Interior Minister Horst Seehofer — had reached a compromise to end a standoff that threatened to bring down the government, her neighbors were up in arms.

Austria and Italy said they plan to reintroduce border controls if Berlin goes ahead with plans to establish so-called transit zones along Germany’s southern border to allow for accelerated deportations of refugees not entitled to seek asylum in the country.

If they do so, it would put the survival of the EU’s cherished Schengen area of border-free travel at risk. “Should this agreement thus become the German government’s position, we feel compelled to take action … and the federal government is therefore prepared to take special measures to protect our southern borders,” said Austria’s leaders — Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, Vice Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache and Interior Minister Herbert Kickl, the latter two from the far-right Freedom Party — in a statement Tuesday.

Diplomats said that Merkel’s move could trigger internal border closures across the bloc.

The Debate: Iran Nuclear Deal

Iran’s president Hassan Rouhani, at the invitation of Austria and Switzerland, has headed to Europe. Top of the agenda is what Europeans will do for Iran when it comes to the nuclear deal. The main question is: Will the Europeans be able to offer Iran a package that will satisfy Iran to stay in the deal?

Germany to SPARK EU RUPTURE as Merkel’s Minister Demands Border with Austria is CLOSED

  • Germany to SPARK EU RUPTURE as Merkel’s Minister Demands Border with Austria is CLOSED
    by LAURA MOWAT, https://www.express.co.uk/
GERMANY’S Interior Minister Horst Seehofer is battling with Chancellor Angela Merkel to CLOSE Germany’s border with Austria – a seismic move which threatens the very existence of the EU.

The Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz landed in Berlin yesterday for talks on EU  migration policy with Chancellor Merkel. Italy’s Home Secretary Matteo Salvini has also requested an invitation to visit for migration talks. The call to close the German border would not only demolish one of the pillars of EU policy – freedom of movement – but would also see more migrants pouring into its neighbouring countries, especially Austria and Italy.

The clash has rocked the already fragile German government, which only formed in March following a coalition and months of wrangling and diplomacy.

Putin on US Establishment: Working with People Who Confuse Austria & Australia is Hard

  • Putin on US Establishment: Working with People Who Confuse Austria & Australia is Hard
    by https://www.rt.com/
Russian President Vladimir Putin lamented the poor level of diplomatic competence demonstrated by Washington lately, saying Moscow found it difficult to work with people who cannot tell Austria and Australia apart.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Putin said the Americans were acting like bullies by shutting down Russian diplomatic facilities.

“The Americans were in their right to reduce the number of our diplomatic facilities. But they did it in an obviously bullying manner, and that does no credit to our American partners,”
     he said.

“It’s difficult to have a dialogue with people who confuse Austria and Australia. There is nothing to do about it. Apparently that’s the level of political culture of a certain part of the American establishment.”

The jibe was referring to a gaffe made by then-US President George W. Bush during an APEC summit in Australia in 2007. In a series of blunders, the Republican leader thanked Sydney for “being such a fine host for the OPEC summit,” and later recounted how then-Australian Prime Minister John Howard had gone to visit “Austrian troops” in Iraq.

End of the EU? Wave of Populism Takes Over Bloc as Austria and Italy Prepare for Elections

  • End of the EU? Wave of Populism Takes Over Bloc as Austria and Italy Prepare for Elections
    by ZOIE O’BRIEN, http://www.express.co.uk/
EUROPEAN Union bosses breathed a sigh of relief when Marine Le Pen was defeated by Emmanuel Macron in France – but new studies have revealed the spread of populism is FAR from over.

Angela Merkel revealed just last month she was rocked by Brexit, and feared for the future of the EU, but the result of the French presidential election gave her new hope. However, that hope may be dashed after the findings of Epicenter (the European Policy Information Centre). Populism is being described as the ‘third force’ in Europe – with right-wing parties gaining renewed support across the bloc. The Epicenter report revealed the total number of European voters who bucked the Brussels rhetoric and chose an anti-system force at the last political elections was 21.4 percent. This means 55.8 million people preferred an alternative to traditional political forces – or those preferred by the EU.

EU CIVIL WAR: Austria Threatens to Send Army to Italy Border in 24 HOURS Over Migrant Row

Austria is threatening to close the Brennan mountain pass border with Italy.

  • EU CIVIL WAR: Austria Threatens to Send Army to Italy Border in 24 HOURS Over Migrant Row
by ROSS LOGAN AND MONIKA PALLENBERG, http://www.express.co.uk/
AUSTRIA has warned it will send soldiers to close the border with Italy in 24 hours if Rome decides to take the “nuclear option” and grant visas to almost 100,000 migrants stranded in the Mediterranean country.

Desperate Italian officials have said they are considering allowing thousands of migrants out of the country and into the rest of Europe, as they struggle to cope with the 10,000 people arriving every day.

Austria, which shares a border with Italy via Brenner, an Alpine mountain pass, has reacted to the proposals with fury, saying it would immediately introduce border controls in the region.

Yesterday during a border visit, Austria’s Interior Minister Wolfgang Sobotka said: “Italy granting humanitarian visas to migrants is unacceptable. In that case, we would immediately introduce controls in Brenner.

“Humanitarian visas are a European issue, not Italian.”

Today he elaborated further on his government’s possible response, in an interview with German newspaper Bild. He said: “If the number of illegal migrants towards Austria keeps rising we will close the border in Brenner.  “Within 24 hours we can close the border and carry out strict controls with our soldiers”.

Italy has long complained it is being left alone to cope with the brunt of the refugee crisis with high numbers of migrants arriving on Italian shores, as the country marks an entry point to the EU on one of the most popular routes for people arriving from Libya.

  • EU in Crisis: Austria Threatens to Close Border as Italy Considers Handing Migrants Visas
    by REBECCA FLOOD, http://www.express.co.uk/
THE European Union is at breaking point as Austria threatens to shut its borders in response to Italy considering granting migrants visas to travel the bloc.

Austrian ministers have hit out over the Italian proposal, with the Interior Minister Wolfgang Sobotka branding the plans “unacceptable”. Italy is considering issuing temporary visas to allow migrants to travel around the EU, in a calculated move intended to pressure its EU neighbours to do more to help ease the migration crisis.

But during a visit to the Austrian-Italian border, and a furious Mr Sobotka declared Austria would have no qualms in installing border controls at key locations. He said: “Italy granting humanitarian visas to migrants is unacceptable. In that case, we would immediately introduce controls in Brenner.

“Humanitarian visas are a European issue, not Italian.”

Italy has long complained it is being left alone to cope with the brunt of the refugee crisis with high numbers of migrants arriving on Italian shores, as the country marks an entry point to the EU on one of the most popular routes for people arriving from Libya. Deputy Foreign Minister Mario Giro said Italy is considering issuing 200,000 temporary migrant visas, allowing them to travel throughout the EU in a bid to force other countries to take note of the problem.

Germany, Austria Hit Out at US Over New Anti-Russian Sanctions

  • How will America prevent Europe from swinging to the side of Russia? Just look at the massive NATO deployment of forces along the Russian border. All these events are setting up for the war in Revelation 17: the 10 Horn Beast Revived Roman Empire (EU 2.0) vs the Mystery Babylon Whore (America 2.0).

Revelation 17:16-17 New King James Version (NKJV)
16 And the ten horns which you saw on[a] the beast, these will hate the harlot, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire. 17 For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill His purpose, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled.
  • Germany, Austria Hit Out at US Over New Anti-Russian Sanctions
    by https://www.rt.com/
“Unacceptable” new anti-Russian sanctions approved by the US Senate violate international law, affect European companies and have a real aim of benefitting the US oil and gas sector, Berlin and Vienna said in an angry joint statement.

The new anti-Russian sanctions are outlined in an amendment to a bill imposing sanctions against Iran. It was approved by the US Senate on Thursday by a majority of 98 to 2, but still needs to pass the House of Representatives and be signed by the US president to become law.

The anti-Russian measures in the amendment involve imposing penalties on enterprises that cooperate with Russian oil and gas companies. A number of European companies are doing just that, participating for example in the Nord Stream 2 pipeline project.

“Europe’s energy supply is a matter for Europe, and not the United States of America!”
said the joint statement by German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel and Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern, published on Thursday.

“We cannot accept threatening European companies that contribute to the development of the European energy supply [system] with extraterritorial sanctions that violate the international law.”

“Sanctions as a political instrument should not be linked to economic interests,”
the statement says. It adds that “threatening German, Austrian and other European enterprises, which take part in the gas supply projects such as the Nord Stream II together with Russia or finance them, with penalties on the US market would add an absolutely new and highly negative aspect in relations between the US and Europe.”

The statement went on to say that Washington’s intention to impose new sanctions against Russia is guided not by some political or humanitarian reasons but rather by economic interest.

“This issue is all about the sales of the US condensed gas [to Europe] and pressing the Russian energy supply companies from the European market. The actual goal [of such sanctions] is to provide jobs for the US gas and oil industry,”
the statement says, citing the US bill on the new sanctions.
