Top Chinese Economists Call For Government To Ditch U.S. Treasuries And Buy Gold !

  • This is sound advice. I am sure the Chinese have been taking action for the past few years by accumulating gold. They operate in stealth, so as to be able to buy gold at a low price. They do not want to be accused of taking the ‘nuclear option’ and destroying America and the world economy ie by dumping treasuries and USD and creating a massive economic/financial calamity.

    Reuters:
“Although assets in other currencies and forms are not an ideal replacement for U.S. Treasury bonds, diversification should be a basic principle,” Yu wrote in the China Securities Journal.

“When demand for U.S. Treasury securities is strong, it’s a rare opportunity for us to gradually pull back. That way, it will not have a big impact on prices and China will not suffer too much,” he said.

Zhang Monan, a researcher with the State Information Center, a think tank under the powerful National Development and Reform Commission, told the paper that China should invest more of its $2.5 trillion of foreign exchange reserves, the world’s largest stockpile, in hard assets such as gold.

BP Oil Disaster: US Orders New Emergency Plan As Seepage Detected Near Capped Well !

  • All that has happened in the past week is BS propaganda PR. These people are masking the real problem.

BP oil spill: US orders new emergency plan as seepage detected near capped well
The US government ordered BP to submit an emergency plan for reopening its capped Gulf of Mexico oil well after experts detected seepage from the surrounding seabed.

Tensions emerged as the US government’s point man on the worst environmental disaster in US history also told the British energy giant to report swiftly on a “detected seep” and “anomalies” near the well. BP – which said Monday the bill from the leak had risen to $3.95 billion (£2.58 billion) – had earlier acknowledged that some bubbles had appeared near the wellhead but expressed optimism that the cap installed three days earlier could stay on.
      …
US Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen said on Sunday that BP must lay out its next steps in writing for “opening the choke valve as quickly as possible without damaging the well should hydrocarbon seepage near the well head be confirmed”. Tests were still ongoing to confirm whether oil was seeping out.

But he stopped short of ordering the immediate removal of the cap, which has halted the gushing crude for the first time since April, when BP’s Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded and capsized, killing 11 workers. Admiral Allen said in his letter to Bob Dudley, BP’s chief managing director, that the company must report to the government in no more than four hours when seeps were detected.

BP’s chief operating officer Doug Suttles said pressure was rising slowly in the well as expected and said there were “encouraging signs” that would allow the new cap to remain on until permanent relief wells could be drilled in August.

The US government was granting extensions to exhaustive well tests on a 24-hour basis, while BP said the valves on the containment cap would remain shut as long as no leaks were discovered.

Three days of respite from the unsettling images of oil gushing into the Gulf raised hopes among residents that this could mark the beginning of the end of what estimates suggest is the biggest oil spill ever.

The start of the two-week operation to plug the well permanently by pumping in heavy drilling fluids and then cement is now less than two weeks away as engineers have only 100 feet left vertically to drill. Measuring devices on BP’s latest cap have given steadily increasing high-pressure readings since tests began Thursday on the well bore, which stretches 2.5 miles below the seabed.

Seismic and sonar surveys and video footage filmed by robotic submarines in the murky depths of the Gulf have been monitoring whether any oil or gas was leaking through the rock formations on the sea floor. Admiral Allen did not specify what sort of “seepage” or “anomalies” the testing had found but warned earlier that “ultimately, we must insure no irreversible damage is done which could cause uncontrolled leakage from numerous points on the sea floor”.

CNN Confirms Methane “Bubbling” From Surface At Unknown Distance From Well !

  • Don Van Nieuwenhuise interview, CNN, July 19, 2010 at 1:20p.m.:
    Rush Transcript Excerpts
    Starts at 2:53 in
CNN: The other concern… is the buildup of methane over the oil well…
CNN: Why do we think there is seepage? tell me about this and what the implications are?

Don Van Nieuwenhuise, director of Professional Geosciences Programs at the University of Houston: They’ve seen a little bit of a spike in the methane content around the well… but not bubbles. So as far as BP is concerned there is no leak there.

But some distance — and I still haven’t heard what that distance is — away from that, they actually can see some methane escaping at the surface and is essentially bubbling through the strata.

And in that case it’s possible that some of the sands below the surface have been charged with oil and gas… The gas will leak out first, and then later on the oil will start to leak out.

CNN: You mentioned they are seeing methane… what are the implications of methane? Why do we now have to be concerned with methane?…

Nieuwenhuise: If a well is completely sealed-in you do not want to see an increase in methane… One of the most serious situations would be is that if you have a leak very close to the well head and you could have a potential erosion of the substrate or the rocks around that well head that could cause it to collapse if the flow increased enough…

Matt Simmons: They’re Still Lying About Oil Disaster! This Is A Crime Against The Planet. This Rivals World War 2!

Vodpod videos no longer available.

  • Do you believe what the Feds and BP tell you? Is the problem  resolved? I don’t think so!

Oil industry insider Matt Simmons blew the whistle on the made-for-TV capping of the so-called oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico Thursday, July 15, during an interview on KPFK radio, the NPR station in Los Angeles.Simmons, former energy adviser to the second President Bush, explained that according to his reading of the data from NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, capping of the so-called riser and the subsequent announcement by U.S. President Obama was “the biggest con job we’ve ever seen.”

Simmons, creator of an investment bank catering to oil companies, told radio host Ian Masters that the real problem continuing to gush oil into the Gulf was not the 6-inch “riser” that apparently has been
capped amid much TV hoopla, but that an open hole or cauldron perhaps up to 10 miles distant from where British Petroleum’s cameras are focused which continues to spew 120,000 BARRELS per day, and that BP’s much publicized effort to drill relief wells in what the company says is an effort to stop the flow of oil is nothing but a cynical publicity stunt.

“The dimensions of this lie are beyond belief,” said Simmons,
explaining that the idea of a relief well is “tricky at best,” since
trying to hit a pipe of less than a foot in diameter 35,000 feet below
the surface of the Gulf may be entirely futile because the casing of
the original pipe is not even there, having blown away at some point.

But Simmons noted that both BP and Obama continue to deny that this open hole, or cauldron, even exists, even though Simmons and others insist the NOAA data from satellites prove by speed of flow and depth of light that the amount of oil that has been flowing through the
on-camera riser could not possibly account for the amount of oil that
    has spilled into the Gulf.

“The riser is totally irrelevant,” Simmons stressed, adding “and
there’s no way to cap the open hole.” He explained that BP continues
to deny the open hole exists and theorizes the continuing flow of oil
into the Gulf is really just the residue from what has already been
spilled during the first 90 days of the disaster.

“There is denial that there’s even a problem,” Simmons said. “In about
a month or two people will realize that this actually was the biggest
    con job we’ve ever seen.”

Simmons also noted an additional danger. “What the researchers now
believe is that basically is that between 4000 and 4500 below the
ocean floor lies an oil lake that’s somewhere between 100 and 120
miles wide and it’s about 4500 feet deep. It’s this toxic waste and
crude and it’s releasing methane gases that are absolutely lethal
which is why all the fish and dolphins and sharks and whales are
dying. And workers too, which is why so many have gotten sick, or
    maybe really sick.

“The health problems are so serious,” Simmons said. “When you inhale
    methane you just die.”
