During an interview with FOX Business, former Rep. Ron Paul explained that he was concerned about the well-being of National Security Agency whistle-blower Edward Snowden.

“I’m worried about somebody in our government might kill him with a cruise missile or a drone missile,” Paul explained. “I mean we live in a bad time where American citizens don’t even have rights and that they can be killed, but the gentlemen is trying to tell the truth about what’s going on.”

Paul added that there were no signs of Snowden defecting to a foreign country, which meant that he was not really a threat. “It’s a shame that we are in an age where people who tell the truth about what the government is doing gets into trouble,” he concluded.

I have watched the news intently over the last 2 days. I switched between all of the farcical news channels to hear what the spin would be, I watched from Fox (supposedly conservative) to MSNBC (supposedly literates) and everything in between. I cannot believe what I am hearing. I can’t even believe that this is real. Questions from the “experts” such as “Is Edward Snowden a hero or a traitor?” or “Should he be prosecuted?” As an American citizen who believes in The Constitution I have my own opinion as you can well guess. Please remember that only 2 weeks ago we found out that the IRS was auditing conservative groups, reporters were being eavesdropped on and the public was blatantly lied to regarding the slaughter of U.S. citizens in Benghazi. I guess those scandals have already been swept under the rug and buried.

Hero or traitor? Did Snowden abrogate The Constitution? The Bill of Rights? Was he even in a position where he “swore” with his hand on The Bible to “protect and defend the Constitution from all enemies whether foreign or domestic?” Probably not. The POLITICIANS who are so up in arms about this “traitor” have ALL BEEN SWORN IN and promised to protect the Constitution. This kid does not appear to be a lunatic or an idiot; he appears to simply be a patriotic American who happens to have a conscience. Did he make any money doing this? Did he further his career? Did he make his life easier in any way? No, he made the hard choice. He may end up in jail, exiled forever, silenced or even go “missing” but he did what he believed in and what he believed this country was founded on. Freedom, Liberty and Justice.

The “debate” as far as I can see has and is totally missing the point. “Should Edward Snowden be prosecuted?” is the question that is being asked. That in my opinion is not the question. The real question is “are we too far down the 1984 rabbit hole or would impeaching, jailing and or executing for treason against the nation, anyone and everyone involved” be enough to send us in a correct direction? I would think that both conservatives and liberals would/could join hands and be pissed about the surveillance state. It doesn’t look like this will be the case sadly; I believe that “surveillance” has become a new normal and “just the way it is” in the nation’s mentality.

A poll yesterday by Pew revealed that 56% of American are “OK” with the surveillance while word out of Washington is that they have no plans to change what they have been doing. As a side note, George Orwell’s predictive book “1984″ has seen its sales surge on Amazon 6,884% in the last 24 hours. I don’t even know what to say, I had hoped that this would be the “wake up” moment for Americans. Apparently it will not be.

Big Banks and Other Corporate Bigwigs Benefit from Illegal Spying

The National Security Agency, a secretive arm of the U.S. military, has begun providing Wall Street banks with intelligence on foreign hackers, a sign of growing U.S. fears of financial sabotage.The assistance from the agency that conducts electronic spying overseas is part of an effort by American banks and other financial firms to get help from the U.S. military and private defense contractors to fend off cyber attacks, according to interviews with U.S. officials, security experts and defense industry executives.

The UK’s electronic eavesdropping and security agency, GCHQ, has been secretly gathering intelligence from the world’s biggest internet companies through a covertly run operation set up by America’s top spy agency, documents obtained by the Guardian reveal.

The documents show that GCHQ, based in Cheltenham, has had access to the system since at least June 2010, and generated 197 intelligence reports from it last year.

The US-run programme, called Prism, would appear to allow GCHQ to circumvent the formal legal process required to seek personal material such as emails, photos and videos from an internet company based outside the UK.

The use of Prism raises ethical and legal issues about such direct access to potentially millions of internet users, as well as questions about which British ministers knew of the programme.

In a statement to the Guardian, GCHQ, insisted it “takes its obligations under the law very seriously”. The details of GCHQ’s use of Prism are set out in documents prepared for senior analysts working at America’s National Security Agency, the biggest eavesdropping organisation in the world.

Dated April this year, the papers describe the remarkable scope of a previously undisclosed “snooping” operation which gave the NSA and the FBI easy access to the systems of nine of the world’s biggest internet companies. The group includes Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Apple, Yahoo and Skype.

The documents, which appear in the form of a 41-page PowerPoint presentation, suggest the firms co-operated with the Prism programme. Technology companies denied knowledge of Prism, with Google insisting it “does not have a back door for the government to access private user data”.
