Armored military vehicles of the type used to hunt for insurgents in Afghanistan are set to patrol roads in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin as part of a training exercise on behalf of the U.S. Army Reserve.

“(Capt. William) Geddes said the U.S. Army Reserve wanted to alert the public to the training dates so residents are not alarmed when a pack of heavily armored military vehicles is driving around the county,” reports Sheboyganpress.com.

The exercises are being run despite the fact that troops driving the M1117 Armored Security Vehicles have already received their basic training. “They’re vehicles that these military officers might use if they’re deployed, patrol vehicles,” Geddes said, adding that the drills were to ensure that officers didn’t get “rusty” in handling the M1117s.

The vehicles, which have been used overseas in Afghanistan, are described as being “strange,” “intimidating” and “heavily armored,” while being the same size as a large SUV. Local authorities have apparently not even been briefed about the planned exercises, which will run until August 17.

“Sheboygan County Administrator Adam Payne said he had not heard about the training exercises. Two city officials declined to comment, because they also had heard nothing about the training,” states the report.

Geddes urged citizens not to create safety hazards on the roads by stopping to gaze at the vehicles. As far as the Fed’s ability to remedy the fiscal situation goes, let’s clear something up right here; the Fed has NO TOOLKIT. Sorry, but central banks have only two options when attempting to shift the tide of the economy: They can lower interest rates to zero, and, they can print-print-print. That is it. We’ve had TARP, numerous bailouts, QE1 and QE2, Operation Twist, and interests rates have been kept near zero for years! On August 3, Haaretz headlined “Netanyahu: If Israel attacks Iran, I will take responsibility for the consequences,” saying:

He criticized Israeli security officials for suggesting they’re concerned about taking responsibility for agreeing.

Unnamed ones believe “Netanyahu remains steadfast in his determination not to rely on the United States, and can be expected to order the IDF to attack Iran in the coming months.” Others think he’s bluffing. It’s “psychological warfare” to pressure Washington to attack. Asked about repercussions if he acts unilaterally, he said “I’ll go and say that I, I am responsible.”

Some with him said “he pounded the table and his chest with his fist.” His fuming didn’t stop. “I’ve had enough of this atmosphere,” he said. Ranting shows poor leadership skills. It’s also reveals his megalomaniacal worldview. He menaces everyone regionally and beyond.

He rails against regional rivals. He always prefers having Washington do his dirty work. He admits Obama won’t act now. Greater pressure is needed to budge him. False flags always shove hard. Both countries have long histories using them.

If war looks imminent as some say, that strategy seems likely. Netanyahu’s office refused to comment on quotes and histrionics attributed to him. Mossad-connected DEBKAfile (DF) isn’t shy about controversial reports. Some have credibility. Others are too fanciful or implausible to believe. Still more come straight from Israel’s propaganda handbook.

DF’s August 5 report may combine some of all three. Headlined “Wartime tasks split: US to smash Iran’s missiles, Israel tackle Syria, Hizballah,” it said:

An unnamed “US military source” said “American armed forces are standing ready for war with Iran.” Prioritized is “destroy(ing) Iran’s Shebab-3 ballistic missile batteries.”

They can strike Israel, Gulf states, and US regional bases. Iran’s missile arsenal is large. Syria and Hezbollah have their own. War might unite them against a common foe. None seek conflict but will defend themselves effectively if attacked. Tiny Israel would be battered. So would US regional assets. Level-headed commanders know the risks.

DF claims America’s Aegis missile defense, Israel’s Arrow rockets and Iron Dome offer adequate protection. Putting them to the test may prove them more porous than protective. Neither country wants that known if true.

On August 4, Defense Minister Brig. General Ahmad Vahidi said Iran successfully test-fired its fourth generation Fateh 100 missile. Its range is 300km. It’s able to strike and destroy land and sea targets with 100% accuracy.

Moving toward War in Syria!

Last week the House passed yet another bill placing sanctions on Iran and Syria, bringing us closer to another war in the Middle East. We are told that ever harsher sanctions finally will force the targeted nations to bend to our will. Yet the ineffectiveness of previous sanctions teaches us nothing; in truth sanctions lead to war more than they prevent war.

Until last year, Libyan sanctions were touted as a great success story. The regime would change its behavior. Yet NATO bombed the country anyway.

Last week we learned that President Obama signed an intelligence “finding” directing the CIA to covertly assist rebels in Syria. The administration seems determined to fight yet another war in Syria that has nothing to do with American national interests. We already know that a similar “finding” was signed under the latest Bush administration directing US intelligence to undermine the Iranian government and promote regime change there. Neoconservatives have long demanded that we overthrow the Syrian government before moving on to war against Iran. This bellicosity continues regardless of which party is in the White House.

In Syria we see once again we see how our interventionist policies backfire and make us less secure. Recent news reports point to ties between the Syrian opposition and al-Qaeda (and other extremist groups). A recent article in the Guardian, a British newspaper, exclaimed that, “Al-Qaida turns tide for rebels in battle for eastern Syria.” The article quotes an al-Qaeda leader in Syria saying that he meets with the main US-backed Syrian rebel organization, the Free Syrian Army, “almost every day.” So by promoting civil war in Syria we end up fueling al-Qaeda.

According to another recent press report, German intelligence services estimate that nearly 100 terrorist attacks have been committed by al-Qaeda or related organizations in Syria over the past six months. Last month a suicide bomber in Syria killed a defense minister and several top government officials. The US government, which has been fighting a “War on Terror” for more than a decade now, refused to condemn that act of terrorism.

This raises the question of whether the US administration is supporting the same people in Syria that we have been fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressed these same concerns earlier this year when asked whether the US has been reluctant to arm the Syrian rebels. She answered, “To whom are you delivering them? We know al-Qaida. Zawahiri is supporting the opposition in Syria. Are we supporting al-Qaida in Syria?”

That is a very good question. It clearly demonstrates that the United States has no business at all being involved in the Syrian civil war. In the 1980s we supported a resistance movement in Afghanistan that later gave birth to elements of al-Qaeda and the Taliban. When will we learn our lesson and stop intervening in conflicts we don’t truly understand, conflicts that have nothing to do with American national interests?
