An American author and historian says NATO is seeking to destroy the “modern Syrian nation” and create “subdivision” in the country, Press TV reports.“NATO’s goal is nothing less than the destruction of the modern Syrian nation, followed by chaos, partition, subdivision, warlords, Balkanization, and a failed state,” Dr. Webster Griffin Tarpley wrote in an article published on Press TV Website on Saturday.

Tarpley’s remarks come a few days after a bomb attack on the headquarters of the National Security Bureau in the Syrian capital, Damascus, killed Syrian Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, Deputy Defense Minister Assef Shawkat, and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani on July 18.

On July 20, National Security Bureau chief Hisham Bakhtiar also died of wounds sustained in the bomb attack. Syrian Interior Minister Mohammad Ibrahim al-Sha’ar was injured in the Damascus bombing.

“It must… be added that the nature of this attack remains unclear, and it would be very unwise to draw conclusions about an infiltrated… bomber or other hypotheses emanating from the NATO brainwash apparatus,” Tarpley commented in his article.

“In the abstract, the capabilities shown in this attack could range anywhere from a cruise missile or drone to the capabilities deployed in the assassination of (Prime Minister) Rafiq Hariri of Lebanon.”

The American author also pointed out that to the “acute disappointment of the NATO mindbenders, the Syrian state did not collapse starting on July 18, and has continued to demonstrate robust capabilities for self-defense.”

The bomb attack in Damascus was carried out on the same day when the UN Security Council was scheduled to meet and vote on a Western-backed draft resolution that proposed sanctions against Damascus under Chapter 7 of the UN Charter, which allows for sanctions ranging from economic measures to an arms embargo and could also authorize the use of military force if necessary.

However, UN diplomats said after the bombing that the meeting was postponed to July 19, when Russia and China vetoed the Western-backed resolution against Syria.

Russian Ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin said after the Security Council meeting, “We simply cannot accept a document under Chapter 7, one which would open the path for the pressure of sanctions and further to external military involvement in Syrian domestic affairs.”

Almost immediately after a bus full of Israeli tourists exploded outside of the airport in Burgas, Bulgaria, both Israel and the United States began hurling accusations that Iran was behind the violence. According to the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry, at least six people were killed and approximately thirty were wounded.

Nicolas Kulish and Matthew Brunwasser of the New York Times wrote:
Photographs and video taken at the airport showed billowing black smoke from the explosion that left the bus a blackened skeleton, scorched several buses nearby, shattered windows and forced the airport to temporarily close.

Eyewitnesses quoted by Israeli news media said some victims were on fire as they tried to escape the flaming bus and that many had suffered severe burns.In a formal statement, President Barack Obama condemned what he called “today’s barbaric terrorist attack on Israeli’s in Bulgaria.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu went much further in his condemnation and stated that “All signs point to Iran.”

While there was no immediate statement from Iran, Netanyahu was quick to point out that the Bulgarian bus explosion came on the 18th anniversary of a bombing that took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at the Argentine Jewish Center that killed 85 people. Argentine prosecutors also blamed this attack on Iran.

Netanyahu further stated that “Over the last few months we have seen Iran’s attempts to attack Israelis in Thailand, India, Georgia, Kenya, Cyprus, and other countries.”

He continued by calling these alleged attacks a pattern of a “global Iranian terror onslaught and Israel will react firmly to it.” Indeed, Israel has been trying it’s best to “react” to Iran for several years, at the very least ever since the years of the Bush regime.

However, as more and more facts emerge regarding the Bulgarian bus explosion, the more and more reasons we have for concluding that Iran was not responsible for it , just like the other attacks supposedly committed by Iran.

To begin with, the very fact that both Israel and the United States had such immediate knowledge as to whom was responsible for the attacks seems questionable at best. However, the fact that this information would point to Iran after both the United States and Israel have been so vocal and open with their desire to harass, provoke, and attack the Middle Eastern nation, is even more suspect.

Just taking a look at some of the most basic facts of this incident seem to incriminate Israel or even the NATO/Anglo-American (Mossad/CIA/MI-6) intelligence agencies much more so than it does Iran.

First, one must ask the obvious question of cui bono? Or, “who benefits?”

Would Iran, encircled by U.S. military bases, located near an increasingly destabilized Syria, and in the crosshairs of the most powerful military powers on the face of the earth, really benefit by committing a solitary act of terror that, beyond killing 6 civilians, has no military objective whatsoever?

Indeed, the only thing such an act would accomplish would be to whip up political and public support for an action against Iran on behalf of those nations who already had their finger on the trigger and have only been looking for public justification to pull it.

However, if one flips the subject nation of this question around and looks at what Israel or the United States/Anglo-American empire would have to gain by such an event, the bombing tends makes much more sense. Indeed, the increase in public support for military action against Iran would only serve to boost the ability of the political forces and shadow government machines to wage their long-desired war against Iran.

Let us not forget that false flag attacks which were designed to be blamed on Iran have been attempted on at least two occasions that we know of in the last several years. The first was the plan by then Vice President Dick Cheney to replicate the Gulf of Tonkin incident with boats and marines painted up with Iranian colors which would then stage a shootout with American naval ships.

This would have provided the rally cry of national defense needed to launch an attack against the “aggressor” nation which would have been bombed into the stone age and WW3 begun long before any real revelation of the true nature of the event came to light.

The second was the absolutely hilarious staged attempt by a so-called “Iranian used car salesman” planning to engage in acts of terror inside the United States.

But while both of these incidents were unsuccessful, it appears that the Bulgarian bombing incident may have more traction. Propaganda efforts have, for the most part, been increased in the years since Cheney boat incident.

Nevertheless, it should also be mentioned that both Israel and the United States would benefit immensely from the fact that the all of the victims (with the exception of the tour guide) were Israeli, thus completing the necessity of the false flag to be perceived as an attack upon oneself.

“Certainly,” members of the public are thinking, “Israel wouldn’t bomb it’s own citizens, would they?” Although the attacks were apparently carried out by a suicide bomber, this should not serve to dampen suspicions of the involvement of Western or Israeli intelligence in the bombings. After all, it is well-known that “fundamentalists,” fanatics, and jihadists like those in al-Qaeda, Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, or the Free Syrian Army are completely controlled by CIA/MI-6 and a small contingent of other Western intelligence agencies. Some even have strong ties to Israeli intelligence.

One other interesting note concerning the technical aspects of the attacks. After the bus had exploded, Oren Katz, an Israeli onlooker, was forced by circumstance to assume the role of emergency worker. This is because the Security agents themselves were essentially doing nothing, another strange circumstance that may, or may not, indicate a possible false flag.

There is already conjecture that James Holmes may have been involved in mind-altering neuroscience research and ended up becoming involved at a depth he never anticipated. His actions clearly show a strange detachment from reality, indicating he was not in his right mind. That can only typically be accomplished through drugs, hypnosis or trauma (and sometimes all three).

His behavior doesn’t add up
His behavior already reveals stark inconsistencies that question the mainstream explanation of events. For example, he opened fire on innocent people but then calmly surrendered to police without resistance. This is not consistent with the idea of “killing everyone.”

Furthermore, he then admitted to police that his apartment was booby-trapped with explosives. If you were really an evil-minded Joker trying to kill people (including cops), why would you warn them about the booby trap in advance? It doesn’t add up.

None of this checks out. If you’re a killer bent on causing mayhem, why tell the police about your surprise bomb waiting for them back at your apartment?

Oates said Holmes wore a gas mask, a ballistic helmet and vest as well as leg, groin and throat protectors during the shooting.”

In other words, this guy was equipped with exotic gear by someone with connections to military equipment. SWAT clothing, explosives, complex booby-traps… c’mon, this isn’t a “lone gunman.” This is somebody who was selected for a mission, given equipment to carry it out, then somehow brainwashed into getting it done.

The Libor scandal is more than just the latest financial deception to come to light. It exposes a fraud that runs to the heart of our financial system.

The London interbank offered rate is a benchmark for a range of interest rates, and the misdeeds making headlines have to do with how those rates are set. If insiders can manipulate the basic measurement of a loan — the interest rate — there is rot at the core of the financial system.

Barclays has admitted to manipulating the rate from 2005 to at least 2009. When the bank made a bet on the direction in which interest rates would turn, the Barclays employees who submit data for calculating interest rates would fake their numbers to help Barclays traders win the bet. Day after day, year after year, bet after bet, Barclays made money by fixing bets for its own traders.

We don’t know who else was fixing bets. Other big banks, including some of the largest in the United States, are under investigation. Barclays doesn’t appear to have acted alone, and it is clear that its fixes weren’t secret deals by rogue traders. Traders put requests to manipulate the rates in writing and even joked about delivering champagne to those who helped them.

It is also clear that many of those who didn’t have a fixer — including consumers, community banks and credit unions — lost money. Barclays padded its bottom line by taking money from everyone else. It won when it shouldn’t have won — and others lost when they shouldn’t have lost. The amount of money involved is staggering. On any given day, $800 trillion worth of credit-related transactions are linked to Libor rates.

In most markets, consumers could simply take their business elsewhere once they learned that the scales were rigged. But interest rates are different. Everyone who borrows money on a mortgage, credit card, student loan, car loan or small-business loan — basically, everyone — is affected by a crooked market on Libor. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, in 2008 more than half of all adjustable-rate mortgages were linked to Libor. Even those who didn’t borrow but saved for retirement or their children’s future got hit with interest rates that had been faked.

It gets worse. During the financial crisis, Barclays and other banks also appear to have consistently manipulated Libor to show lower-than-real borrowing rates to convince the world — and their regulators — that the bank was stronger than it really was. In other words, they rigged the interest-rate reports so that no one would know exactly how much trouble they were in.

With a rotten financial system once again laid bare to the world, the only question remaining is whether Wall Street has so many friends in Washington that meaningful reform is impossible.

One bank caught trying to rig an interest rate may be tip of an iceberg. With an estimated $300 trillion in loans or derivative contracts around the world pegged to the interest rate, the scandal is again shaking faith in major international banking centers like Wall Street and London City.

The latest banking fraud is centered in Britain, where the financial firm Barclays will pay half a billion dollars in fines for efforts to manipulate a benchmark interest rate. Other banks must have been involved, though, and the full range of the scandal has yet to emerge. Here’s a quick look at what is known and why it matters.

What is LIBOR?
LIBOR stands for London Interbank Offered Rate. It’s supposed to measure the average interest rate that banks charge when they lend to each other. LIBOR is also used as a foundation for other rates (such as the reset of adjustable rate mortgages) and a reference point for complex financial derivatives.

By one measure, some $300 trillion in loans or derivative contracts are pegged to LIBOR. That’s 20 times the size of one year’s economic output in the United States.

The LIBOR rates are determined by major banks. The banks report interest-rate estimates to the British Bankers Association, and the firm Thomson Reuters averages them to provide daily LIBOR numbers. The catch: The banks provide the numbers on an honor system. That’s different from gathering data on observable transactions.

Who manipulated it, and how?
So far, Barclays is Exhibit A: Its chief executive officer has stepped down, and the firm will pay $453 million in fines to settle charges of LIBOR manipulation dating back as far as 2005. More banks will probably be implicated.

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission, which charged Barclays and reached a June 27 settlement, stated that other banks were at least sometimes involved. Barclays traders “coordinated with and aided and abetted traders at other banks,” the CFTC said, sometimes on days “when many derivatives contracts are settled or reset.”

The foreign-financed armed rebellion and the Western-backed opposition to Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad has been falsely portrayed as a spontaneous uprising of “democracy” activists since violence first broke out more than a year ago. But according to a recent investigation published in the U.K. Guardian, top figures in the “regime-change” coalition — most notably the Syrian National Council (SNC) — have intimate links to the highest ranks of the world elite: the shadowy Bilderberg conference, the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), the Goldman Sachs megabank, billionaire financier George Soros, and, of course, the U.S. government. It is all out in the open, too.

On top of that, the report suggests that much of the war propaganda being used to promote international military intervention and “revolution” is actually slick public-relations gimmicks financed by large tax-exempt foundations and even the governments being asked to intervene. And there is big money behind the spread of the disinformation. Consider the seemingly never-ending reports about “civilian massacres” blamed on the Syrian tyrant — almost always from anonymous “activists” — that continually prove to be exaggerated, fabricated, or even perpetrated by the Western-backed rebels themselves, and then blamed on the regime.

The most recent example occurred just last week when anonymous “activists” prompted the global press and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to claim that over 200 civilians, including women and children, had been massacred, only to be contradicted later — even by a UN investigation and “opposition activists” themselves. What actually happened, as The New American originally reported even before the UN probe, was apparently a battle between armed Western-backed “rebels” and the dictatorship’s military forces that resulted in some deaths of combatants.

So who are the “opposition activists” in reality? “The mainstream news media have, in the main, been remarkably passive when it comes to Syrian sources: billing them simply as ‘official spokesmen’ or ‘pro-democracy campaigners’ without, for the most part, scrutinizing their statements, their backgrounds or their political connections,” observed Charlie Skelton in his detailed and well-sourced article for the Guardian, noting that many of the most frequently quoted sources are openly connected to what he calls “the Anglo-American opposition creation business.” As The New American documented a year ago, many of the Syrian “opposition” groups and leaders were being showered with American taxpayer dollars to undermine the regime long before the “Arab Spring” even erupted.

Aside from the “anonymous” sources, there are a few opposition players that seem to be doing virtually all of the accusing for the establishment press — not to mention making most of the demands for more “humanitarian” war. The first one cited by Skelton is Bassma Kodmani, one of the top leaders in the “Syrian National Council” — a foreign-based umbrella group for some opposition factions, including the extremist Muslim Brotherhood, which is widely touted by the establishment press and Western governments as the primary group representing the “people” of Syria. And Kodmani, who continues to loudly demand international military intervention to oust the Assad regime, has open links to the elite.

Consider, for example, that she was at this year’s Bilderberg conference in Chantilly, Virginia — a secret yearly meeting of the top global power brokers from media, finance, government, military, intelligence, business, and more, that has come under criticism from across the political spectrum. Kodmani was also at the 2008 Bilderberg conference, though she was listed as French then. Now, for reasons that are not entirely clear, her official affiliation is listed only as “international.” Before Bilderberg, Kodmani was a former official with the massive Ford Foundation, an organization that has also come under fire for its controversial efforts to remake the world. More recently, she was serving as the executive director of the “Arab Reform Initiative” for the powerful U.S.-based globalist outfit known as the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) — yet another controversial elite group that is often faced with severe criticism for its hostility to national sovereignty, as well as American traditions of self-governance and individual liberty. The CFR membership roster includes many of the most influential figures in U.S. politics, business, military, and more.

As a result, the pernicious feedback loop between banks and sovereigns, as well as market fragmentation, have been accentuated during the crisis. In some cases, the necessary provision of ECB liquidity has led to further sovereign bond purchases by banks, deepening this link even more.

The adverse bank-sovereign feedback loops at the heart of the crisis have intensified. Concerns about banks’ solvency have increased because of large sovereign exposures, particularly in periphery countries. Some sovereigns, in turn, are struggling to backstop weak banks on their own.
