Tel Aviv, March 6 (IANS) An Israeli cabinet minister Tuesday called on placing Iran under an air and sea blockade if it does not stop its presumed drive for nuclear arms.

“The time has come for the United States to place a clear ultimatum and deadline before Iran, and say that ‘if Iran does not stop its drive for nuclear weapons by such and such a date, an air and sea blockade must be imposed’,” Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz said Tuesday in an interview with Israel Radio.

“We appreciate the cooperation between the US and us and the sanctions that have been imposed, but we expect to hear clearer statements,” Xinhua quoted Steinitz as saying.

“Four years ago, United States President Barack Obama said ‘all options are on the table,’ and the time has come to change the text,” according to Steinitz, who concluded that “we’re close to the point of no return, and the US must stop Iran’s nuclear weaponization for the sake of the entire world.”

Iran says it will allow the UN nuclear watchdog to inspect the facility where the West suspects work is under way to develop nuclear warheads. Meanwhile, the world’s major powers have agreed to a new round of six-party talks with Iran.

“Given that Parchin is a military site, access to this facility is a time-consuming process and it can’t be visited repeatedly,” said Iran’s diplomatic mission in Vienna, as cited by the Iranian semi-official ISNA news agency. However, the spokesperson then added that following IAEA demands, Tehran “will allow the IAEA to visit it one more time.”

The statement comes as fears grow that Israel may soon strike Iran in an attempt to destroy its nuclear facilities. However, before such a visit can take place, the report says Tehran and the IAEA need to agree on “modalities”. A date for the visit was not given. There have also been no comments so far from Iranian diplomats or IAEA officials.

Following the report, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said that six world powers – the United States, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany – have agreed to a new round of talks with Iran.

- I don’t have enough knowledge to say how China will progress ie: soft or hard landing. I don’t think China will break apart like the USSR because it is largely one homogeneous country. The official statistics cannot be trusted and it remains to be seen how China will fare when oil prices hits US$150-200/barrel. Yes, it will fall but how badly? The key problem China will face is: how to keep employment high. If not, social unrest, riots … will rise and cause chaos. This is an interesting article.

And the country is witnessing a property bubble in several of its major cities that will do what all property bubbles do: burst and wipe out millions in its citizens’ capital.

Ireland is likely to need a second bailout when its current aid program ends, rating agency Moody’s warned today. In its weekly credit outlook report, Moody’s also warned a No vote in the upcoming fiscal treaty referendum would bar Ireland from receiving further funds under the European Stability Mechanism (ESM).
