• S&P expects Greece to default soon! 
  (Reuters) – Greece will default shortly on its debt obligations, a senior Standard & Poor’s official told Bloomberg Television on Monday. “Greece will default very shortly. Whether there will be a solution at the end of the current rocky negotiations I cannot say,” said Moritz Kraemer, the head of the agency’s European sovereign ratings unit. “There is a lot of brinksmanship on and a disorderly default will have ramifications on other countries but I believe policymakers will want to avoid that … The game is still on.”

  A senior International Monetary Fund executive warned on Monday that Europe required bold action to avert a “downward spiral” that could drag the world economy into “catastrophe”. IMF First Deputy Managing Director David Lipton, in his first major speech since his appointment late last year, told a meeting of Asian finance and banking chiefs in Hong Kong that the world economy was in trouble.

  “At the global level, the pace of economic activity is weakening, and the risks for Europe and the world are high,” he told the Asian Financial Forum. “Rather than allow ourselves to be paralysed by pessimism, it is time to focus on the more hopeful perspective of working our way through this crisis.”

  His comments came after US-based ratings agency Standard and Poor’s last week downgraded the sovereign debt ratings of nine eurozone countries including top-rated France and Austria. The move will increase the affected countries’ borrowing costs and could lead to a similar downgrades of the European Financial Stability Facility, the eurozone’s bailout fund.

  Lipton said the “good news” is that “we know what policies are needed, and we are busy trying to muster the finance to support those policies”. But without bold and concerted international action,”Europe could be swept into a downward spiral of collapsing confidence, stagnant growth, and fewer jobs,” he said. “And in today’s interconnected global economy, no country and no region would be immune from that catastrophe. This is especially true for Asia,” Lipton added.

  Asia’s relatively strong economies have already been hit by the fallout from Europe, with export markets drying up and higher capital reserve requirements forcing European banks to sell assets and pull cash out of emerging markets.

  Thai police were questioning a Lebanese man with alleged links to Hezbollah militants as the US Embassy and Israel warned Friday of a “real and credible” terrorist threat against Americans and Israelis in Bangkok.

  The warning comes during heightened tension over US and Israeli responses to the prospect that Iran is going forward with developing nuclear weapons. Lebanon-based Hezbollah, which has been accused of carrying out terrorist attacks in the Middle East since the 1980s, is avowedly anti-Israel and widely considered to act as a proxy for Iran.

  Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung said Thai authorities received a tip-off before New Year’s of a planned attack, which was said to target Israelis. “At first we were told the Palestinians were behind it but it turned out to be the Hezbollah,” he told The Associated Press. He was not clear on what happened to the second suspect.

Is Perry telling us something?

  Perry asserts: “[an] Iranian attack on an American military vessel will serve as a justification and a pretext for a retaliatory move by the US military against the Iranian regime.” However, Perry identifies “a US aircraft carrier” as the likely target of this imagined Iranian attack. We beg to differ. There are major indications that the vessel of choice is to be the USS Vincennes. The fourth USS Vincennes (CG-49) is a US Navy Ticonderoga class Aegis guided missile cruiser. On July 3, 1988, the ship shot down Iran Air Flight 655 over the Persian Gulf, killing all 290 civilian passengers on board, including 38 non-Iranians and 66 children.

  This would be an ideal vessel for the staged provocation as it could be easily sold to the world as having been Iranian retribution for the 1988 downing of Flight 655. That way the evident lack of motive for Iran to provoke the US and Israeli military will be replaced by a perceived “motive.” No one will stop to ask themselves why Iran would thereby engage itself in a major war.

  If we were to believe the Wikipedia version of history the Vincennes has already been scrapped. The Wikipedia article for the Vincennes states, “The Vincennes was completely scrapped by 23 November 2011.” If that were true it could not be used as the target of this “false-flag” attack. Yet we have photographic and testimonial evidence suggesting otherwise. A reliable source interviewed by one of us has brought us up to speed on the latest developments:

  Plans are longstanding. Timing alone isn’t known. Signs suggest 2012. If sanctions, subversion, cyberwar, and targeted assassinations fail, expect hot conflict to follow. On January 9, the Washington Post quoted an anonymous US intelligence official saying America’s goal for Iran is “regime change.” A next day article retracted the statement, saying:

  “An earlier version of this article reported that a US intelligence official had described regime collapse as a goal of US and other sanctions against Iran. An updated version clarifies the official’s remarks.”

  In other words, the Post retracted its correct assessment. Indeed, Washington’s longstanding goal is regime change by whatever means necessary, including war. Recent reports and events are worrisome. On January 13, the The Tribune Company headlined, “US troops quietly surge into Middle East,” saying:

  CENTCOM head General James Mattis “warned that he needed additional forces to deal with Iran and other potential threats….”

  As a result, 15,000 combat troops are positioned in Kuwait. “The new units include two Army infantry brigades and a helicopter unit.” In addition, two aircraft carrier battle groups remain in the region. Nuclear armed and dangerous, they include a carrier, two guided missile cruisers, a guided missile destroyer, another anti-submarine (ASW) one, an ASW frigate, two attack submarines, and a combined ammunition, oiler, supply ship.

  On January 13, Foreign Affairs contributor Mark Perry headlined “False Flag,” saying:

  US intelligence files reveal that “Israeli Mossad officers recruited operatives belonging to the terrorist group Jundallah by passing themselves off as America (CIA) agents.”

  Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty, part of Washington’s worldwide propaganda operation, reported them responsible for assassinating high-ranking Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp (IRGC) officers and other government officials. The State Department designates Jundallah (a militant Pakistan group, allegedly with Al Qaeda and Taliban links) a Foreign Terrorist Organization. Washington strategically uses insurgent groups like Al Qaeda as allies and/or enemies. Israel’s policy is similar.

  CIA memos suggested no direct Jundallah contacts. They also showed US intelligence familiarity with Mossad practices, and perhaps encouraged them. Nonetheless, Perry said “they were stunned by the brazenness of the Mossad’s efforts,” operating “nearly in the open.”

  Though no evidence links Jundallah with targeted Iranian assassinations, The New York Times reported that current and former US officials say “(t)he CIA has repeatedly tried to derail Iran’s uranium enrichment program by covert means, including introducing sabotaged parts into (its) supply chain.”

  Too big a jump in logic? Follow our reasoning through the rest of this article. First of all, we have to question the New York Times‘ credibility.
