The pound benefited as the euro plunged to its lowest level for 15 months amid fears that eurozone countries and their banks may be buckling under the weight of their debts.

Traders dumped the single currency and pushed sterling to 82.6p per euro as Italian and Spanish banks led a rout of financials that was driven by the anticipation of a hefty round of capital raisings.

The seemingly unstoppable debt crisis led economists at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to urge Asian banks to brace for turbulence. In a blog, the economists called for Asia’s Chiang Mai Initiative, a $120bn (£77.5bn) agreement of pooled emergency resources, to be readied.

Shares in two Italian banks, including Unicredit, were suspended after sustaining heavy losses. Spanish banks were punished after the finance minister said the sector will need €50bn to recapitalise. French and German banks were also hit.

The concerns doused optimistic US economic data to push stockmarkets into the red for the second day in a row. Italy’s MIB fell 3.7pc, Spain’s Ibex 2.9pc, and France’s CAC 1.5pc. In London the FTSE slid 0.8pc. The yield on Italy’s 10-year bonds soared back over the 7pc bail-out level.

According to Celente, when the European Union falters from too much supply of debt coming due ($7.3 trillion from G-7 nations, see zerohedge.com) against the backdrop of sliding demand for more debt, the European domino will topple other dominoes, widening the global depression to include the world’s larger economies.

“If you live in Greece, you’re in a depression; if you live in Spain, you’re in a depression; if you live in Portugal or Ireland, you’re in a depression,” Celente said. “If you live in Lithuania, you’re running to the bank to get your money out of the bank as the bank runs go on. It’s a depression. Hungary, there’s a depression, and much of Eastern Europe, Romania, Bulgaria. And there are a lot of depressions going on [already].”

And as far as a Chinese riding in on a white horse to save the day, Celente said, it’s “highly unlikely. China has 1.3 billion people with a million problems . . . If the Europeans and Americans don’t buy a lot of crap, then the Chinese can make it and sell it to them.”

He continued to explain that China will then likely slow its imports of materials from countries which have been supplying mined product during the commodities boom, leading to a vicious spiral of increased unemployment and declining economic activity—a scenario strongly intimated by Dow Theory Letters author Richard Russell in his latest letter to investors (excerpts posted on King World News). Russell, too, expects a steepening U.S. depression, with 25 percent unemployment in the America as his target at the bottom of the depression.

DCI/Palestine “is a national section of the international non-government child rights organisation and movement (dedicated) to promoting and protecting the rights of Palestinian children,” according to international law principles.

On December 28, it submitted a complaint to several UN authorities titled, “The use of solitary confinement on Palestinian children held in Israeli detention.” It’s specifically for five children held at Al Jalame and Petah Tikva interrogation centers in Israel. Their cases follow 29 others since February 2008. At both facilities, “solitary confinement is routinely used.”

Though no universally agreed on definition exists, the Istanbul Statement on the Use and Effects of Solitary Confinement defines it as physically isolating prisoners in cells for 22 to 24 hours daily. Human contact is minimized, including quantitative and qualitative stimuli. The harmful psychological and physical effects are well documented. They include:

- severe anxiety;
- panic attacks;
- lethargy;
- insomnia;
- nightmares;
- dizziness;
- irrational anger, at time uncontrollable;
- confusion;
- social withdrawal;
- memory loss;
- appetite loss;

As a result, “(s)ome children report suffering pain behind their eyes and adverse psychological effects.” Harsh treatment, including prolonged isolation, painful shackling, physical violence and torture are used to extract confessions.

The Obama administration is intent upon crushing both social dissent as well as antiwar protest. The American Republic is incompatible with America’s “long war”. What is required is the instatement of a “democratic dictatorship”, a de facto military rule in civilian cloths.

Thousands of Troops to Israel
Advanced war preparations are ongoing. Barely mentioned by the Western media, although confirmed by Israeli press reports, the Pentagon is preparing to send several thousand US troops to Israel.

In the context of ongoing war preparations, these troops are slated to participate in joint US-Israeli military maneuvers in Spring 2012, described by the Jerusalem Post as “the largest-ever missile defense exercise in [Israel's] history.” (emphasis added)

Frank Gorenc, commander of the US’s Third Air Force based in Germany, visited Israel to finalize plans for the upcoming drill, expected to see the deployment of several thousand American soldiers in Israel. These war games involve the testing of Israel’s air defense system, which is now fully integrated into the US global missile detection system, following the installation (December 2008) of a new sophisticated X-band early warning radar system. The US global missile detection system includes satellites, Aegis ships in the Mediterranean, Persian Gulf and Red Sea as well as land-based Patriot radars and interceptors. In the context of planning the US-Israel Spring war games:

Gorenc came to Israel for talks with Brig.-Gen. Doron Gavish, commander of the Air Force’s Air Defense Division. He toured one of the Iron Dome batteries in the South and the Israel Test Bed lab in Holon where the IAF holds its interception simulation exercises.

The IAF is planning to deploy a fourth battery of the Iron Dome counter-rocket system in the coming months and is mulling the possibility of stationing it in Haifa to protect oil refineries located there.

Integrated US-NATO-Israel Command Structures
Pursuant to these joint US-Israel games, there are indications that the US is also planning to increase the number of American troops stationed in Israel. Moreover, these military exercises planned for next Spring are accompanied by a fundamental shift in US-NATO-Israel command structures. What is now unfolding at Washington’s behest is an integration of US-Israel military command structures.

Washington is not a reluctant partner, as some observers have suggested, “with the Obama administration attempting to distance itself” from an Israeli sponsored war on Iran. Quite the opposite!

Given the integration of Israel’s air defense system into that of the US, Israel cannot, under any circumstances, wage a war on Iran without the US. Moreover, since mid-2005, following the signing of a protacol between NATO and Tel Aviv, Israel has beocme a de facto member of the Atlantic Alliance. The Pentagon calls the shots. The planned deployment of US troops in Israel is part and parcel of a US sponsored war.

In the context of the Spring 2012 military drills, the United States military will establish Command Posts in Israel. In turn, Israel’s IDF will establish Command Posts at United States European Command headquarters (EUCOM), in Stuttgart, Germany. (Ibid).
