- I can’t tell you which of the last 5 straws will break the camel’s back. But the camel’s back will break. The Eurozone will collapse. The Euro will be toast, followed by UKP, JPY … and finally USD. I do not believe the rest of the fiat currencies will survive the hyperinflation onslaught. They will also lose purchasing power massively. Yet again, Europe stands on the brink of abject disaster, apparently unable to resolve its differences. A monetary union that was meant to bring former enemies together, binding them to each other via irreversible economic integration, is succeeding only in tearing them apart. It is a crisis that this newspaper has consistently warned of since the single currency’s creation; it gives no pleasure to see our predictions come true.

With a meltdown in the sovereign debt markets fast metastasising into an all-embracing economic and political calamity, the Continent’s position has rarely seemed quite so imperilled since the days of the Second World War. Most worrying is that the Franco-German partnership which lies at the heart of the European project is fracturing as never before, with deep divisions over almost every aspect of the grand rescue plan.

It has already been conceded that this weekend’s meeting of EU leaders in Brussels – billed as the summit to end all summits – will be unable to agree anything of importance. Few have any confidence that a separate meeting on Wednesday will do much better. Whatever is agreed is almost guaranteed to fall short of expectations. Solutions that might have worked if enacted at an earlier stage are being rendered progressively obsolete by fast-deteriorating economic conditions and debt dynamics. Even Germany now seems to be slipping back into recession.

Europe’s political elites know that for the euro to survive in its present form, it must move – with speed – towards full fiscal and political integration. Yet national leaders, and the voters they answer to, are as yet unwilling to accept the loss of sovereignty, and indeed the shared liabilities, that such a revolution demands.

As some European leaders demonstrate a celebratory mood over the violent death of Colonel Gaddafi, they are no less terrorists themselves, claims international consultant and author Adrian Salbuchi.

Salbuchi said Gaddafi’s death was undoubtedly a message for the whole world, as it is not just about Libya.

“We are seeing how Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State expressed it very clearly: ‘We came, we saw, he died,’ and then started laughing. This is a message to the world of how this new world order model actually works,” he stated. “When they decide to change the regime, they do so with the utmost violence, and it is a whole model. First they target a country by calling it a rogue state; then they support local terrorists and call them freedom fighters; then they bring death and destruction upon civilians and they call it UN sanctions. Then they spread lies and call it the International Community’s opinion expressed by the Western media. Then they invade and control the country and call it liberation and finally they steal appetizing oil and call it foreign investment and reconstruction,” Salbuchi explained.

At the moment Western powers are hailing a democratic future for Libya. When Saddam Hussein was captured in 2003 the US also thought it was all over – but it had only just begun. And according to Salbuchi, it is going to be the same, or even worse, for Libya.

They are just using this to justify they have supported the worst terrorists probably because in the White House and Palais de l’Élysée in France, and at 10 Downing Street, we also have very high-class terrorists and mafias running those countries and the better part of the world,” he pointed out.

He added the US, France, Britain and NATO should be held accountable for the sectarian violence, should it take place in Libya. “In any country, Libya included, there is always about a half of the population that is against the ongoing government. Should we also be invading Greece because of the way they are handling their own internal divisions?” he posited. A rebel-assisted victory in Libya will not mark the end of NATO’s interest in the country, Salbuchi emphasized.

The UN has criticized Israeli violence against Palestinian children, urging the international community to scale up its protective measures for minors living under Israeli occupation.Richard Falk, the UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, said on Thursday that ”settlers’ violence and vandalism and night time raids and detentions by Israeli occupation forces, house demolitions, threatened expulsions, and a host of other practices”, have deprived Palestinian children of safety and a sense of security.

He also said that long-term Israeli occupation has alarming affects on children’s health and well-being. ”Prolonged occupation deforms the development of children through pervasive deprivations affecting health, education, and overall security,” Falk told the General Assembly’s human rights committee.

In his report, Falk also expressed extreme concerns about the violence against Palestinian children arrested by Israeli military, urging Tel Aviv to adopt guidelines in line with humanitarian law for the detained children.

”The arrest procedures documented by UN agencies and reliable human rights organizations include arrests in the middle of the night, removal of child from parents for questioning, abusive treatment at detention and conviction procedures that appear to preclude findings of not guilty,” he said.

Falk described an incident in which a three-year old girl was forced out of her home at 3 a.m. and threatened at gunpoint to reveal her brother’s whereabouts. ”She was told she would be shot and her family home destroyed unless she revealed the whereabouts of her brother,” said Falk, adding that ”and now, her mother explained, she can’t sleep through the night and bedwets”.

According to Falk, the number of the Palestinian children arrested and prosecuted by Israeli authorities has risen in the past four years and most them were arrested over allegations of stone-throwing at Jewish settlers or Israeli soldiers.

He also criticized Israeli authorities for their failure to prevent and punish settler violence against Palestinian children, stressing that many Palestinian kids have stopped attending school because of frequent settler harassment. The UN investigator for the Palestinian territories also touched on the situation of Palestinian children living in the Gaza Strip.

Falk said in Gaza, children are affected by ”traumatizing periodic violent incursions and sonic booms resulting from over-flights, as well as the still unrepaired destruction of refugee camps, residential communities, and public buildings by Israeli forces.” There was no immediate response from Israel to Falk’s report.

Falk has previously angered Tel Aviv by comparing Israel to Nazi Germany and accusing it of crimes against humanity because of its treatment of the Palestinians. Falk is currently barred from visiting the Palestinian territories, a situation he described as a “disappointment” that made it difficult for him to do his job.
