Reuters – Amman: The Muslim Brotherhood called on Syrians to take to the streets on Friday and help the besieged city of Deraa, where a rights group said civilian deaths from a tank-backed army attack rose to 50.
It was the first time that the Brotherhood, ruthlessly crushed along with secular leftist movements under the rule of late President Hafez Al Assad, had called directly for protests in Syria since pro-democracy demonstrations against Assad’s son, President Bashar Al Assad, erupted six weeks ago.
A declaration by the Brotherhood, sent to Reuters by its leadership in exile on Thursday, said: “Do not let the regime besiege your compatriots. Chant with one voice for freedom and dignity. Do not allow the tyrant to enslave you. God is great.” In Deraa itself, defiant residents said the army assault had failed to silence the southern city of 120,000 people.
“Despite everything people came out after evening prayers yesterday and were crying ‘God is Greater’ from rooftops. We want to resist them even if it’s only with our voices,” a man who identified himself only as Abu Zaid said by telephone.
“The villages around Deraa are all planning to flock to the city in solidarity despite the roadblocks and the siege around the city,” said another resident called Jasem. Witnesses said roads into Damascus were closed on Friday morning, to prevent people marching from the rural areas around the capital into the city.

But not only are the dollar, Euro and Yen (the big three) in trouble, politics and economics in all sorts of jurisdictions are in trouble. Will the US really bail out the many States which are under water? Maybe, but it will hardly help the Federal mess. …

Zionists Torture Female Palestinian Captives through Sexual Harassment
TEHRAN (FNA)- Palestinian Minister for Captives Affairs Ataollah Abu Sabah warned about the Zionist regime’s savage behavior towards female Palestinian prisoners, saying that the women inmates are experiencing harsh sexual harassment in Israeli jails.
“The pains of the female Palestinian captives start from the very day they are detained and taken to the detention centers where they are deprived of all services, “Abu Sabah told FNA on Wednesday.
Referring to the inhumane behavior of the Israeli prison guards towards Palestinian women, he said that Israeli forces sometimes invade the prison cells, beat the inmates and harass them sexually.
Sabah reminded that there are 37 female Palestinian captives in Zionist regime prisons who are all suffering from the worst kind of harassments. He expressed the hope that the efforts made by various groups to set the Palestinian captives free from Israeli prisons would soon yield results.
According to a new report released on April 22, one-fourth of the Palestinian population residing in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) has been put behind the bars by the Israeli regime, making Palestinians the most imprisoned people in the world..
Besides, Israel is the only regime worldwide that has child prisoners under the age of 18. They number 280. “Their living conditions are harsh. Prison administration refuses to allow mature prisoners to join them. Israel uses all sorts of punishment and tortures against child prisoners to recruit them as spies. They threaten them with rape and other forms of violence,” contends the report by ‘Friends of Humanity International’.
“There is no one single family that didn’t experience the arrest of one of its members. The majority of those detained are male, which constitutes over 40 percent of the total male Palestinian population” in the OPT, says the report titled ‘A year of Jails storming and attempts to weaken prisoners determination’.
“Since Israel began its illegal occupation of the West Bank and Gaza in 1967, more than 650,000 Palestinians have been detained, representing approximately twenty percent of the current total Palestinian population in the Occupied Territories,” notes the report released in Vienna.
The report points out that Israel has illegally detained Palestinian men, women and children through an extensive and systematic set of regulations that control every aspect of Palestinian life. They restrict or deny their basic human rights.
