  Toxic Gas Concentrations Said Coming From The Blowout
  (Unconfirmed) Toxic and carcinogenic gasses being released from the BP wellhead area into the gulf and into the atmosphere:
   
  - Benzene (a severe carcinogen) is said to be measuring at 3,000 parts per billion (ppb).  The ‘safe’ levels are said to be 0-4 PPB.
  - Hydrogen Sulfide is showing up at 1,200 ppb with 5-10 ppb considered ‘permissible.’
  - Methylene Chloride appearing a 3,000-3,400 ppb with  0-61 ppb said to be ‘safe.’
  - Vanadium (highly toxic) is present in quantities not yet specified
   
  Major evacuation plans with martial law enforced by Northcom have been drawn up and will be activated should the government believe this becomes necessary. Politicians inside the beltway have been briefed and ‘President’ Obama and his aides are not being honest with what they know about this crisis.

  It’s happening along a large swath of land near the Shelby and Tipton county border along Herring Hill Road and elsewhere near the Mississippi River bottoms. Tiny dots appear to have burned onto leaves of all types of plants, and they appear different depending on the plant. On corn stalks, the dots seem to turn white in the center.
   On other plants, a white dust speckles the leaves and then destroys the green life underneath.
   
  “We found it all in the herbs, in the flowers, in the plum tree, in the weeds,” said organic farmer Toni Holt. “It’s apparently in everything.”
  Holt grows organic produce that she sells at area farmers’ markets.
  As she and other farmers inspect the new growth covered in the perplexing plague, they fear their entire crop may be lost. Less than ten miles from Holt’s crops, the damage could possibly hit hundreds of acres of corn at Wilder Farms. It appears to have hit everything in its path. There does not seem to be anything in common with the affected plants.
   
  The Holts raise organic crops, so they don’t spray pesticides on any of their fruits and vegetables. The first thought among some was a new parasite or insect caused the damage, but Wilder farms sprays pesticides and the damage there is exactly the same. Farmers first noticed the damaging dots over the weekend. Then Holt came home to find baby birds dead in their nests.
   
  “There are two dead birds hanging out of two different bird houses, so we’re concerned about that. We don’t know if it’s related, but it’s alarming,” said Holt. “We’ve got horses, we’re concerned about the horses on the grass. We’ve got chickens. We sell our eggs at the market.” Farmers we spoke with are convinced something in the air caused this damage. They’re asking the USDA and other experts to look into the problem, and so are we.

Several research models indicate it could eventually make its way up the Atlantic coast. About 78,000 square miles of the Gulf, or about 32 percent of federal waters, have been closed off from fishing. Obama’s political standing is in jeopardy as well; in an ABC News/Washington Post poll published June 7, 69 percent of those polled rated the federal response to the spill as “not so good” or “poor.”
   
  Oily Storm Surges
  A category III hurricane with winds between 111 and 130 miles per hour could blow coastal water as much as 12 feet above normal, according to a Coast Guard hurricane readiness plan. Such storm surges “may carry oil into the coastline and inland as far as the surge reaches,” according to an information sheet from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which forecasts weather in addition to other duties. NOAA predicts a 70 percent chance that 14 to 23 named storms, including as many as seven major hurricanes, will form in the Atlantic in the next six months. The seasonal average is 11 named storms and two major hurricanes.

  Israel Threatens War if Turkish PM Tries to Deliver Gaza Aid
  Israeli Army commander and top Likud member Uzi Dayan today warned on Israeli Army Radio that Israel would consider any attempt by the Turkish military to protect future aid ships from attack an “act of war.”
   
  Dayan then added that if Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan attempted to accompany the aid ships personally, as he has reportedly considered “we would not try to take over the ship he was on, but would sink it.” He added that Erdogan’s presence on a future aid ship would also be a casus belli for an Israeli war against Turkey.

  The Israeli killings have only increased the number of groups planning attempts to deliver aid, and Israeli officials have promised to stop all these attempts militarily as well. The explicit threat of war against Turkey is something new, however. While Israel starts wars with a casualness rarely seen in other nations, an attack on Turkey, a key NATO member with an enormous military, would be something quite different from a monthlong attack on the Gaza Strip or blowing up metro Beirut with air strikes.
   
  Bağış: NATO fleet could end Gaza blockade
  Egemen Bağış, Turkey’s chief EU negotiator, has proposed sending a NATO fleet to end an Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip following the deaths of nine Turks in the May 31 raid by Israeli commandos on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla. He said yesterday in Brussels that he did not favor an attack on Israeli vessels enforcing the blockade but that Israel should not be allowed to continue to keep aid out of the strip.
   
  “I think NATO should send a fleet to put an end to the embargo,” Bağış, whose country is a member of NATO but not the EU, said, as quoted by Reuters during a visit to Brussels. Asked if this might involve a NATO attack on Israeli vessels enforcing the blockade, he said, “There needs to be no attack.”
   
  He said one option would be for the NATO fleet to take humanitarian aid, adding that this was his personal idea and that he had not discussed it with the rest of the Turkish government.
   
  Iran’s Gaza-bound ships ready for clash with Israel – Ahmadinejad
  An Iranian sea convoy will back up the Turkish campaign to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza. Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad assured Turkish leaders whom he met in Istanbul Tuesday, Jan. 8 that the vessels due to enter the disputed waters within days will not shrink from a head-on clash with Israel’s Navy and Air Force exclusion forces. “We’ll breach the Gaza blockade,” the Iranian president vowed. The Iranian Red Crescent vessels will carry “volunteer marines” of the Revolutionary Guards “who will teach the Israelis a lesson.”  Tehran’s “humanitarian convoy” for Gaza will consist of three Iranian vessels flying Red Crescent flags.

For some months, one or two Iranian submarines have been deployed in the Mediterranean using Syrian naval port facilities.
   
  The showdown between Turkey and Israel, said Ahmadinejad, “will change many issues in the world and mark the final countdown for Israel’s existence. It shows that it has no room in the region and no one is ready to live alongside it.”

Israeli Document: Gaza Blockade Isn’t About Security!

  McClatchy obtained an Israeli government document that describes the blockade not as a security measure but as “economic warfare” against the Islamist group Hamas, which rules the Palestinian territory. Israel imposed severe restrictions on Gaza in June 2007, after Hamas won elections and took control of the coastal enclave after winning elections there the previous year, and the government has long said that the aim of the blockade is to stem the flow of weapons to militants in Gaza.Last week, after Israeli commandos killed nine volunteers on a Turkish-organized Gaza aid flotilla, Israel again said its aim was to stop the flow of terrorist arms into Gaza. However, in response to a lawsuit by Gisha, an Israeli human rights group, the Israeli government explained the blockade as an exercise of the right of economic warfare.
   
  “A country has the right to decide that it chooses not to engage in economic relations or to give economic assistance to the other party to the conflict, or that it wishes to operate using ‘economic warfare,’” the government said. McClatchy obtained the government’s written statement from Gisha, the Legal Center for Freedom of Movement, which sued the government for information about the blockade. The Israeli high court upheld the suit, and the government delivered its statement earlier this year.
   
  Sari Bashi, the director of Gisha, said the documents prove that Israel isn’t imposing its blockade for its stated reasons, but rather as collective punishment for the Palestinian population of Gaza. Gisha focuses on Palestinian rights.

  The Israeli government took an additional step Wednesday and said the economic warfare is intended to achieve a political goal. A government spokesman, who couldn’t be named as a matter of policy, told McClatchy that authorities will continue to ease the blockade but “could not lift the embargo altogether as long as Hamas remains in control” of Gaza.

Items such as cement or metal are barred because they can be used for military purposes, Israeli officials say. According to figures published by Gisha in coordination with the United Nations, Israel allows in 25 percent of the goods it had permitted into Gaza before the Hamas takeover. In the years prior to the closure, Israel allowed an average of 10,400 trucks to enter Gaza with goods each month. Israel now allows approximately 2,500 trucks a month.
   
  The figures show that Israel also has limited the goods allowed to enter Gaza to 40 types of items, while before June 2007 approximately 4,000 types of goods were listed as entering Gaza. …. While there have been mounting calls for an investigation into the manner in which Israel intercepted the flotilla, world leaders have also called for Israel to lift its blockade on Gaza.

  He also called for an easing of Israel’s blockade. “It seems to us that there should be ways of focusing narrowly on arms shipments, rather than focusing in a blanket way on stopping everything and then, in a piecemeal way, allowing things into Gaza,” he told reporters.

  European Jewish Group to Launch Flotilla to Break Gaza Blockade
  BEIRUT: A Jewish European peace group is to launch a boat to break the blockade of Gaza in the coming months, organizers said, almost a week after nine activists were killed making the same trip. European Jews for a Just Peace (EJJP) – an umbrella organization of Jewish groups from 10 European countries against the occupation of Palestine – aim to deliver humanitarian aid such as school books and medicines to the Gaza Strip, and to draw attention to the blockade which they call “immoral.”
   
  “We want to show that not all Jews support Israel,” said Edith Lutz, a German member of the EJJP. “We are calling for a just solution and for an end to the blockade.” On board the ships will be activists from across Europe including Germany and the UK, as well as an 85-year-old Holocaust survivor from Israel. The voyage was originally meant to carry only a small number of activists together with journalists from Europe and Israel, but organizers say that a huge response from the Jewish community has meant that a second boat has been arranged, and the possibility of a third is being discussed.

  This sentiment was echoed by Glyn Secker, a member of the British based Jews for Justice for Palestinians who will captain the ship. “I think it will have particular significance because it is a group of Jewish people saying that as Jews, we are critical of Israeli policy. We believe that there should be a just peace for the Palestinians,” he said.
   
  Organizers hope to draw attention to the injustice of the blockade whilst delivering much-needed supplies to the impoverished territory of 1.5 million people, 80 percent of whom rely on some sort of food aid according to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees UNRWA. “The supplies are symbolic,” said Secker, “they include medical supplies, books, art materials and some musical instruments to give to the children.”
   
  “We want to make a very clear moral statement that the way Israel is treating the Palestinians is, we believe, extremely immoral. We want to say emphatically: ‘not in our name,’” Secker added.
   
  50 Ships To Join Second Freedom Flotilla
  Yasser Qashlaq, the head of the Free Palestine Movement, announced Thursday that Freedom Flotilla 2 could include up to 50 ships. Qashlaq said that a ship organized by Journalists Without Borders will depart from Lebanon to Gaza within a week. There will be journalists, members of the Free Palestine Movement, and other peace activists aboard the ship. On Wednesday, organizers of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla announced that a Swiss ship will join the next convoy to Gaza.

  Almost 700 passengers from 40 different countries joined the flotilla. There were human rights workers, humanitarian aid workers, members of parliament, doctors, nurses, teachers, community leaders, and international journalists on board the ships.

  Israeli President Shimon Peres has received a chilly welcome in South Korea from dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters denouncing the visit by the “killer.” The activists gathered outside the Israeli embassy in Seoul on Thursday to protest Israel’s fatal attack on a Gaza aid convoy on May 31, which left 20 international volunteers onboard the ships killed and more than 40 others wounded.
   
  The protesters shouted slogans against Israel and defaced an Israeli flag with palm prints stained in the color of blood. They also carried banners reading, “Shimon Peres the Killer,” and urging, “Lift the siege on Gaza immediately.”
   
  Israeli media said Peres had to curtail his Asian tour in the wake of massive protests worldwide against Israel’s attack on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, downgrading his trip as a “working” visit and pushing him to delay the second leg of his trip, to Vietnam.
   
  Amid condemnations hurled at Seoul officials for welcoming Peres, a ceremony originally planned for Wednesday at the prestigious Korea University to award the Israeli leader an honorary doctorate was cancelled. Peres’s office, however, said the Israeli delegation had cancelled his participation in the planned ceremony more than a week ago, due to a scheduling conflict.
