The Korean Crisis: Cui Bono?

• Cui Bono? The western Illuminist cabal. They get to keep their bases in both Okinawa Japan and South Korea. Both of which are needed for the coming war with China and Russia. My suspicion is that the South Korean president is probably a US lackey! The world is heading towards an engineered World War 3! William Engdahl, as usual, gives us his perceptive analysis.
    
  The alleged North Korean sinking of a South Korean boat in March has dramatically escalated tensions between north and south Korea. It has also caused a reversal of a planned Japanese government push to close the US military base on Okinawa. The major question in the bizarre affair is Cui Bono?
   
  On March 26, a 1,200-ton Cheonan corvette was sunk apparently by a torpedo. Forty-six sailors died when the ship went down near the disputed Northern Limit Line (NLL) in the Yellow Sea following a sudden explosion. On May 26, a special investigative commission of South Korean military and unnamed experts from the US, Canada, Britain, and Sweden, issued their report stating that, “Cheonan was sunk as the result of an external underwater explosion caused by a torpedo made in North Korea. The evidence points overwhelmingly to the conclusion that the torpedo was fired by a North Korean submarine.”

  Curious Proof
  The key piece of evidence cited by the anonymous commission is a fragment of a torpedo propeller – somehow recovered at the final phase of the investigation – with a marking which reads “No. 1” and matches a North Korean torpedo found 7 years ago in the Yellow Sea, according to Alexander Vorontsov, Head of Korea Department of the Institute for Oriental studies of the Russian Academy of Science. He adds, “Considering that the blast was allegedly caused by a torpedo carrying a net explosive weight of 250 kg, investigators must have been remarkably lucky to find the right fragment with the marking implicating North Korea. The marking, which is the sole indication of the country of origin of the torpedo, could of course look exactly the same on a South Korean torpedo.”
   
  The Obama White House has rushed to endorse the Commission report. The White House condemned “the act of aggression” in a statement made available almost immediately on release of the report. Even before the report was released, Obama talked to South Korean President Lee Myung-bak by phone and reportedly told Lee that all contacts with North Korea should be suspended until it becomes clear who perpetrated the attack, not exactly a calming move.
   
  Japan, whose new Government had won election on a pledge to close the controversial US Naval base on Okinawa, suddenly capitulated and agreed with Washington to “settle” the dispute, citing the Korean crisis as grounds. Japan and the United States have now come to an agreement on the relocation of the US military base in Okinawa. Japanese Defense Minister Toshimi Kitazawa and US Defense Secretary Robert Gates met at the Pentagon the same day the Korean commission issued its “findings.”
   
  To date both the Russian and Chinese governments have reacted extremely cautiously to the Seoul claims. Russian foreign minister Lavrov has stated that Moscow would carefully review pertinent materials, both those from South Korea and “from other sources.” He made clear that Moscow had reservations about the South Korean version of the incident and deemed further verification necessary. Lavrov also urged restraint on both sides, a stark contrast to the Obama Administration.
   
  China’s position is generally similar. China’s foreign ministry spokesman described the sinking of Cheonan as a tragic incident and stated that the priority in dealing with it should be to sustain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the entire North East Asia. Beijing is calling for calm and restraint until it transpires what exactly happened. Unofficially, China criticizes the evidence at South Korea’s disposal as unconvincing, patchy, and contradictory and says it is going to assess the situation independently.
   
  North Korea insists that the evidence was forged and is ready to send its inspectors to assess it. Pyongyang is offering to delegate representatives to review South Korea’s “evidence,” a timely and rational initiative intended to keep the inter-Korean dialog afloat during the crisis and help defuse the conflict. South Korea’s refusal to enter talks with Pyongyang would further diminish the credibility of their evidence.
   
  In addition to the dispute over the status of the key US base on Okinawa in Japan, the US is under pressure to end its military command in South Korea and turn it over to the South Koreans in 2012. The US has 28,000 troops on the peninsula. In line with an agreement reached after the end of the 1950s Korean war, South Korean soldiers follow US military orders in case of war on the Korean Peninsula. The latest incident comes as North Korea appeared ready to resume the six-party talks on North Korea’s nuclear program, involving Russia, Japan, China, the United States and the two Koreas, stalled in April 2009 when Pyongyang pulled out of the negotiations in protest against the United Nations’ condemnation of its missile tests.
   
  In 1999 this writer spoke with a former US Ambassador to Beijing, a career CIA officer and close friend of the Bush family. The former diplomat stated, in an incautious moment, “If North Korea did not exist, we would have to create it. They allow us to keep our fleet in the Japanese waters despite the end of the Cold War.” Perhaps the sudden heating up of Korea tensions is also related to a longer-term Pentagon agenda for the region. If we ask Cui Bono, the clear reply is Washington.

  Misleading Photos Used by Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Justify Killing Activists 
  If there is one constant about government it is this — they tell lies and fabricate propaganda in order to bamboozle their citizens. Israel is no exception. 
   
  In order to make the case that the Gaza aid flotilla consisted of terrorists — including al-Qaeda, Hamas, and Hezbollah, never mind the absurdity — the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs has posted a number of photos on its Flickr page purporting to show weapons and military equipment supposedly found on the Mavi Marmara. Several of the photos, however, were not taken on the ship as claimed. In fact, at least two of them were taken in 2006.
   
  Israeli “Defense officials also say some activists had military-style gear such as bulletproof vests and night-vision goggles,” the Associated Press reports today. EXIF data posted on the Flickr page reveals that both photos were taken in 2006. Digital cameras often save EXIF (Exchangeable Image File) data with the image file, including shutter speed, date and time, focal length, exposure compensation, metering pattern and if a flash was used. Ficklr as a matter of course mines this data and posts it on the page.
    
  The corporate media often pegs internet journalists and bloggers as rank amateurs who have damaged the reputation of journalism and often spread conspiracy theories, lies, and disinformation. And yet the seasoned journalism professionals working the desks at the Associated Press were completely duped by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its obviously bogus photos.
   
  It was a French blogger going by the name of Ibn Kafka who discovered the EXIF data. The Political Theatrics blog translated his original post. Digital cameras, of course, often do not have the time and date set correctly and this may be the case with the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs photos. Even so, the EXIF data should raise questions about the validity of the claims made by the Israeli government about what they found on the Mavi Marmara.
   
  Don’t expect the Associated Press to do this. After all, they are basically script readers passing along official propaganda designed to dupe the masses and manufacture consent. Governments tell pathological lies and it is the job of the corporate media to disseminate these lies.

  Erdogan warns Israel: “Don’t test our patience”
  Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the international community not to accept an independent Israeli investigation into the lethal operation against the “Freedom Flotilla” to Gaza. He called the IDF action a “massacre” and warned Israel not to test Turkey’s patience.
   
  During a speech before the Turkish parliament in Ankara, Erdogan said the flotilla was legal, and the operation against it was a violation of the spirit of the UN. He added that the unjustified attack against the flotilla was “a blow to world peace and against international law.”
   
  Erdogan, who was applauded throughout the speech, went over the steps taken by Turkey following the incident, including the recall of the Turkish ambassador in Tel Aviv, the cancellation of three military exercises that the two states were supposed to carry out, and the return of a young Turkish basketball player from Israel.
    
  “Now Israel has shown to all the world how well it knows how to kill,” he said. “People were killed and badly wounded, some from shots, even when bound. How human is this? There is no other way of explaining this to the world. All states condemn it, but this is not enough, we need results. People around the world need to know that one day justice will be revealed. If Israel does not immediately free all the detainees and wounded, the rift in relations with it will widen.”
   
  ‘Friendship strong as animosity’
  Erdogan then attacked Israel, saying the operation was an act of piracy, and called on Israel’s citizens to oppose their government. “We expect the states whose citizens took part in the flotilla to respond to Israel’s unacceptable acts.” Israel, he said, must stop using the excuse of self-defense to justify its behavior.
   
  Erdogan emphasized that his country has never been anti-Semitic. He thanked the Jewish community in Turkey for its support for Turkey’s position. “Turkey’s friendship is as strong as its animosity,” he said. “The Israeli nation must pressure its government to cease such acts. All detainees must be released, including parliament members and the 60 Turkish journalists. Israel will not be able to show itself in the world until it apologizes for what happened and undergoes self-criticism. It is destroying its alliances one after the other.”
     
  Turkey mulls military escort for Irish blockade-buster vessel

  ….Furthermore, the Irish vessel Rachel Corrie, which was left out of the flotilla after it developed technical trouble, was discovered to have changed course from a direct route to Gaza and headed for a stopover at a Turkish port. debkafile’s counter-terror sources disclose suspicions in the Israeli government and naval command that the Irish ship would take aboard a new batch of trained Turkish IHH terrorists and head for the Gaza Strip. They might even be the same IHH activists who attacked Israeli commandos on the Marmara and were deported Wednesday.
   
  Erdogan has resolved that this group which he personally sponsored will reach Gaza Port by hook or by crook. It is also feared in Jerusalem that he may attach an escort of Turkish warships and air force jets to accompany the Rachel Corrie and make sure the ship breaks through the blockade to its destination.
   
  The Irish ship was first scheduled to anchor Saturday, June 5, but its detour to Turkey will delay its arrival by a couple of days.
   
  Fears of new flashpoint as defiant Israel prepares for showdown with two more Gaza aid ships
  Israel is facing another potentially explosive confrontation at sea as pro-Palestinian activists sent two more boats to challenge its blockade of the Gaza Strip. Reports in Israel claimed the navy was prepared to use even more force to stop ships from breaking the blockade.
   
  A top commander told the Jerusalem Post yesterday: ‘We boarded the ship and were attacked as if it was a war. ‘That will mean that we will have to come prepared in the future as if it was a war.’
    
  Turkey – one of Israel’s closest Muslim allies until Monday’s clash left several of citizens dead – was last night reported to be considering sending a naval escort for the boats. This would arrive in the region at the end of the week, creating a potential flashpoint for a major clash between the nations.

  “We see clear murder taking place, and we see an aggressive country,” Erdogan said criticizing Israel and warning not to test his country’s patience. He said: “Turkey’s hostility was as strong as its friendship is valuable.” According to Erdogan, relations between the two countries would never be as before.
