Curry Kills Gullet Cancer Cells!

  • Some of this simple but effective cancer cures are around. What usually happens is that Big Pharma will suppress it to protect their US$500B a year cancer business. So expect dis-information on this simple cure after a while. It usually goes like: it needs more testing.. tests are inconclusive …. no incentive for us to pursue it as it cannot be patented… results are not repeatable … blah blah blah…etc. Good researchers and scientists who do not comply with corporate policies to protect profits/business will be discredited and fired. The Telegraph UK reports :
     
    Molecules found in curry ingredients have been shown to kill throat cancer cells in the laboratory, reveals research.
    Scientists based at the Cork Cancer Research Centre in Ireland treated  oesophageal cancer cells with curcumin – a chemical found in the curry spice tumeric. They found that curcumin started to kill cancer cells within 24 hours. The cells also began to digest themselves, according to the research, published in the British Journal of Cancer.
      
    Dr Sharon McKenna, lead study author, based at the Cork Cancer Research Centre, University College Cork, said: “These exciting results suggests scientists could develop curcumin as a potential anti-cancer drug to treat oesophageal cancer. “Scientists have known for a long time that natural compounds have the potential to treat faulty cells that have become cancerous and we suspected that curcumin might have therapeutic value.
     
    “Dr Geraldine O’Sullivan-Coyne, a medical researcher in our lab, had been looking for new ways of killing resistant oesophageal cancer cells. “She tested curcurmin on resistant cells and found that they started to die using an unexpected system of cell messages.”
     
    Normally, faulty cells die by committing programmed suicide – or apoptosis – which occurs when proteins called caspases are “switched on” in cells. But these cells showed no evidence of suicide and the addition of a molecule that inhibits caspases and stops this ‘switch being flicked’, made no difference to the number of cells which died.
     
    This suggested that curcumin attacked the cancer cells using an alternative cell signalling system. Less than 20 per cent of people survive oesophageal cancer beyond five years. It is the sixth most common cause of cancer death and accounts for around five per cent of all UK cancer deaths.
     
    Dr Lesley Walker, director of cancer information at Cancer Research UK, said: “This is interesting research which opens up the possibility that natural chemicals found in tumeric could be developed into new treatments for oesophageal cancer. “Rates of oesophageal cancer rates have gone up by more than a half since the 70s and this is thought to be linked to rising rates of obesity, alcohol intake and reflux disease so finding ways to prevent this disease is important too.”

Turkey to Use National Currencies in Trade With Iran, China!

  • The USD hegemony is coming to an end. The world knows it. More countries are taking steps to prevent dislocations caused by a collapse USD. The USD has rallied this past 5 days against all currencies. Resistance is seen at 76.80 for the US Dollar Index. It will likely test this and fail to break through the upper limit of the price channel. Next week we will likely see the resumption of the downtrend. The slow stochastics is reaching over bought levels.

    Turkey is switching to national currencies in trade with Iran and China, ending dependence on the U.S. dollar and the euro for about 20% of its commodity turnover, local media reported on Wednesday. Turkey has already switched to settlements in national currencies with Russia amid weakening confidence in the greenback as the world’s major reserve currency. The move was initiated by Turkish President Abdullah Gul during his visit to Moscow in February.
     
    Turkey’s decision to make settlements with Iran and China in national currencies was announced during a visit to Iran by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The Turkish premier told a Turkish-Iranian business forum on Tuesday that the countries had prepared a legal framework for transition to settlements in national currencies.
     
    “We have adopted a necessary legislative act and are prepared for the transition,” the Turkish newspaper Milliyet quoted Erdogan as saying. According to the paper, Turkey’s trade with Russia, Iran and China exceeds $65 billion a year. Russia is Turkey’s largest trade partner, with $37.8 billion commodity turnover registered last year.
     
    Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said on October 14 that Russia was ready to consider using the Russian and Chinese national currencies     instead of the dollar in bilateral oil and gas dealings. “We are ready to examine the possibility of selling energy resources for rubles, but our Chinese partners need rubles for that. We are also ready to sell for yuans,” Putin said.
     
    Britain’s Independent newspaper reported in early October that Russian officials had held “secret meetings” with Arab states, China and France on ending the use of the U.S. dollar in international oil trade. The countries are reportedly seeking to switch from the dollar to a basket of currencies including the euro, Japanese yen, Chinese yuan, gold, and a new unified currency of leading Arab oil producing countries.
     
    The Independent said the meetings have been confirmed by Chinese and Arab banking sources, although Russian officials said they had no knowledge of the talks.

Saudis Drop WTI Oil Contract!

  • This is a sign that Persian Gulf Oil countries are taking steps to get out of the USD. They know what the US government intends to do: inflate their debts away by devaluing the USD! Of course, publicly no one will say it, as it amounts to defrauding debt holders. In the light of Iran starting up their own oil bourse last week, this dropping of WTI oil contract is very significant! FT reports:
      
    Saudi Arabia on Wednesday decided to drop the widely used West Texas Intermediate oil contract as the benchmark for pricing its oil, dealing a serious blow to the New York Mercantile Exchange. The decision by the world’s biggest oil exporter could encourage other producers to abandon the benchmark and threatens the dominance of the world’s most heavily traded oil futures contract. It is the main contract traded on Nymex.
      
    The move reveals the growing discontent of Riyadh and its US refinery customers with WTI after the price of the     price of the benchmark became separatedfrom the global oil market this year. The surge in oil inventories in Cushing, Oklahoma, where WTI is delivered into America’s pipeline system, depressed the value of the WTI against other global benchmarks, throwing the global oil market into disarray.
     
    In January, WTI, which usually trades at a premium of $1-$2 a barrel to Brent, fell sharply, leaving it at a discount of almost $12 – a record gap. This dislocation in the market continued well into the summer. From January, Saudi Arabia will base the price of oil for its US customers on a new index developed by Argus, the London-based oil pricing company.
     
    The Argus Sour Crude Index will track the price in the physical market of a basket of US Gulf Coast crudes, including Mars, Poseidon and Southern Green Canyon. Argus said the change in policy reflected the “increased importance of the US Gulf coast sour crude market, in which both production and trading activity was rising sharply”.
     
    Paul Horsnell, head of commodities research at Barclays Capital in London, said Saudi Arabia’s decision was likely to reflect a “wider discontent” from its customers in the US about WTI performance. ExxonMobil, Marathon and Valero are among the US’s biggest buyers of Saudi crude oil.
     
    Edward Morse, chief economist at LCM Commodities in New York, said: “It is a recognition by large players that  pre=”that “>WTI sometimes does not reflect the true value of crude oil in the waterborne market.” Saudi Arabia has priced its oil using WTI since 1994. The price was based on quotes from the physical market which were compiled by Platt’s, a unit of McGraw-Hill. Oil companies then covered their exposure to WTI using the futures market on Nymex.
     
    Bob Levin, managing director of market research at the CME Group-owned Nymex, said the exchange was ready to move with the market. “We plan to introduce a cash-settled futures contract tracking the new Argus index,” he said.

India Scraps Rice Import Tax.

  • India is in trouble despite all the denials from Indian politicians. They say India have sufficient warehouse stock in the event of food crisis. They say they will release the stock back in August when the harvest was pretty bad. So far they have not. FT reports :
      
    India on Wednesday scrapped its rice import duty as the government took emergency measures to increase food stocks after the worst drought in more than 30 years cut agricultural output.
     
    India is the world’s second-largest producer and consumer of rice after China and has seldom made big purchases of rice on international markets. This year, however, it has been forced to turn to greater imports after one of the     worst monsoons since 1972 and flooding damaged the domestic crop in northern India.
      
    Asia’s third largest economy is also confronted by     rising food prices and in the past months has put curbs on the export of agricultural commodities. To ease the purchase of rice on international markets, the Central Board of Customs and Excise said it was lifting the 70 per cent tax for a year in view of the deteriorated weather conditions.
     
    The US Department of Agriculture this week forecast a 15m to 17m tonne decline in India’s rice output for 2009-10 from a record 2008-09 production of 99.2m tonnes. India is expected to consume about 90m tonnes this year. Indian rice exporters said that the country would seek to import about 2m tonnes of rice in the coming months to build up stocks.
     
    Rice importers in countries from the Philippines to Iran and South Africa have been watching the market for fear that India’s poor monsoon could push prices higher. New Delhi estimates that Indian farmers have planted rice in 30.2m hectares, down 17.5 per cent from last year. With top-producing states such as Uttar Pradesh hit hardest, the monsoon crop could fall as much as 20-25 per cent, analysts said.
     
    The drop in India’s output means that global demand will outpace supply for the first time since 2006, according to the US Department of Agriculture. It estimates the world’s supply at 433.5m tonnes, down 3 per cent from last year, and consumption of 438m, up 1.7 per cent.
     
    The Indian government has assured consumers that it has enough food stocks to feed the country’s population for a year. Other countries, including China and Thailand, also have large stocks after two years of bumper crops, and cheap wheat will encourage a shift to other cereals. But the Indian government is becoming increasingly worried about rising inflation, in part stemming from higher food prices.
     
    “There are clear signs of rising inflation stemming largely from the supply side, particularly from food prices,” said Duvvuri Subbarao, the governor of the Reserve Bank of India. “Private consumption demand is yet to pick up. Agricultural production is expected to decline.”

Lebanon Discovers Rockets with Timers Aimed at Israel!

    A day after Israel’s artillery attack on southern Lebanon, the Lebanese army troops say they have discovered four rockets ready to be launched at Israel. The Katyusha-type rockets, which were set with timers, were found Wednesday in a half-built house in the border village of Hula, where nine Israeli artillery shells landed the night before.
     
    “The military has discovered this morning four rockets in the south, ready to be fired, in a house under construction belonging to the mayor of Hula,” a Lebanese military spokesman said after deactivating them.
     
    The mayor, who was not in the village at the time of the incident, is not believed to be involved. Tensions on the volatile Israel-Lebanon border increased again on Tuesday after Israeli forces struck southern Lebanon with artillery shells following a reported rocket launch from Hula, which landed in an open area in the Upper Galilee but caused no damage or casualties.
     
    While there was no immediate claim of responsibility for Tuesday’s rocket fire, Israeli officials say they hold the Lebanese government responsible. The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) says it has started an inquiry into the attack.
